Doomben Racecourse will be the destination for Brisbane metropolitan racing this Saturday afternoon, with a very competitive nine-race card set down for decision. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, but with no rain on the forecast, we expect to be racing on a perfect Good 4 surface. The rail will be in the +4m position for the entire circuit, with the action set to kick off at 11:53am AEST.

Best Bet at Doomben: Vodka Martini

Vodka Martini began his four-year-old season in the best possible way, defeating a small field with ease at Eagle Farm on August 12 over 1000m. The Kelly Schweida-trained galloper has never missed the placings from his eight career starts, and the form around him is very good for a race like this. This son of Agitate stays in Benchmark 78 grade and rises 2kg in weight; however, with Cejay Graham retaining the ride and taking 2kg off his back with her claim, he appears the horse to beat.

Best Bet

Race 6 – #7 Vodka Martini (1)

4yo Gelding | T: Kelly Schweida | J: Cejay Graham (a2) (58.5kg)

$2.70 with Boombet

Next Best at Doomben: Devastating

The Tony Gollan-trained Devastating returned to the winner’s circle for the first time in 16 months, defeating Maximum Vortex by 1.1 lengths over 1000m at Eagle Farm on August 5. After a 58-week spell, this son of Exceed And Excel has returned with two encouraging runs and will have taken a lot of confidence from his last-start victory. This five-year-old gelding will be at peak fitness third-up on Saturday, so carrying the extra weight shouldn’t be a problem. With James Orman retaining the ride and drawing barrier one, Devastating should get the run of the race and prove hard to hold out.

Next Best

Race 1 – #1 Devastating (1)

5yo Gelding | T: Tony Gollan | J: James Orman (59kg)

$4.60 with Ladbrokes

Best Value at Doomben: Contemptuous

Group 2 placegetter Contemptuous will be looking to turn his form around after finishing ninth of 10 at the Sunshine Coast over 1000m on July 30. Due to unsuitable conditions that day, we are happy to forgive the run. The Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted-trained galloper will return to the Doomben 1200m, a track and trip where he holds a very good record (3:2-1-0). Jaden Lloyd will be legged back aboard, seeking his fourth win in his seventh ride on this guy. At around $15 with most online bookmakers, Contemptuous is well over the odds.

Best Value

Race 8 – #2 Contemptuous (9)

7yo Horse | T: Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted | J: Jaden Lloyd (57.5kg)

$15 with PlayUp
