An eight-race card is scheduled for the Lakeside track at Sandown on Wednesday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Victorian horse racing expert presents his best bets and top quaddie numbers for the meeting. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail is out 10m for the entire circuit, and racing is set to commence at 1pm AEST.
Sandown Best Bet: He’s The Reel Deel
Our best bet at Sandown comes up in the last race of the day as the Matthew Brown-trained He’s The Reel Deel steps out over 1400m looking to make it three wins in succession. Having smashed his rivals by five lengths on the Hillside track on August 11 in a dominant all-the-way victory, he looks perfectly placed in his step up to BM70 company. Carleen Hefel retains the ride, which is a massive bonus because her 3kg claim gets the son of Dundeel in with 59.5kg on his back. He draws barrier 14, but considering he has the early speed to overcome the draw, we expect Hefel to give him a dig out of the gates and hunt for the rail. As long as the pair don’t get trapped three deep, He’s The Reel Deel should be too good for this lot.
Race 8 – He’s The Reel Deel (#2)Next Best at Sandown: Mahashakti
The Mitch Freedman-trained Mahashakti drops out of Saturday company following a midfield finish at Caulfield on August 14 behind the smart Elephant. Having put together four wins in a row last campaign, the Mahisara mare clearly has above-average ability, and with three wins to her name on firmer ground she looks one of the best bets on the Sandown card. Tahlia Hope retains the ride and claims 3kg, and from barrier two she will look to find a spot in the running line. If Mahashakti is afforded clear galloping room at the top of the straight, she has an impressive turn of foot and should prove too hard to hold out in the second leg of the quaddie.
Race 6 – Mahashakti (#2)Sandown Value Bet: Prince Alexander
Archie Alexander brings his three-year-old colt Prince Alexander to Sandown first-up from a 17-week spell. Having chased home the smart Godolphin duo of Pauele and Heresy in his last campaign, the son of Animal Kingdom has shown some ability and looks set to run a cheeky race on Wednesday. Like many three-year-olds, he holds a nomination for the Caulfield Guineas on October 6, where he is a $201 in futures markets. Declan Bates stick on board, which is a plus, and if Prince Alexander can sustain a run from midfield, he should prove hard to hold out at a nice price.
