What Sandown Hillside Races
Where Sandown Racecourse – 591-659 Princes Hwy, Springvale VIC 3171
When Wednesday, February 23, 2022
First Race 3:40pm AEDT

Racing heads back to the Hillside track at Sandown for another week, and HorseBetting’s Victorian tipster will look to steer you into a few winners. We’re racing on a Good 4 rated track, whilst the rail comes out to the 6m mark having been out 3m last week, meaning there should be no distinct advantage throughout the day. The first of eight races is set to jump at 3:40pm AEDT.

Sandown Best Bet – Prix De Turn

The Matthew Brown-trained Prix De Turn returns to Sandown for the first time since an eye-catching debut runner-up performance which saw him compete in the Caulfield Guineas at just his second start. The three-year-old Turn Me Loose colt has chased home Anamoe, Fangirl and Coastwatch throughout his career, and this maiden event on Wednesday is by far the easiest field he has faced. This looks to be a bit of an easy kill, as he is armed with a strong turn of foot and should prove too classy for this lot. He bombed the start at Caulfield when first-up in the Group 2 Autumn Stakes, so he will need sort that out or else risk leaving himself too much to do late. If he jumps clean enough from the barriers, we are sure Brian Higgins will have him stalking the speed approaching the turn before romping home to a maiden win at start five.

Next Best at Sandown – Zac De Boss

The Simon Zahra-trained Zac De Boss was chasing home the likes of Tagaloa and Mo’unga in races 12 months ago, but he simply has not gone on with the job since. However, he was back into the minor placings for the first time in over a year at Bendigo last time out and looks well-placed to run a cheeky race here. Regular jockey Damien Thornton will look to have the four-year-old Zacinto gelding settled close to the speed throughout and in doing so should be able to track into the race nicely. He has a more than decent turn of foot and if he brings his best, then Zac De Boss should prove too good in the third leg of the quaddie.

Best Value at Sandown – Tycoon Humma

In the opening leg of the quaddie, we are confident the John McArdle-trained Tycoon Humma can return to the winner’s stall following a less than ideal spring campaign in tougher company. Having chased home the likes of Gimmie Par, Crystal Bound and Seradess in Group races during the spring, the three-year-old filly is set to go around in a BM64 for the first time in her career. She returns to the 1000m, a distance she took out two races at to begin her career, including a narrow victory over subsequent Danehill Stakes winner Kallos. Jamie Mott will look to have this daughter of Capitalist settled at the rear in the small field of eight and have her finish right over the top on her way to a successful autumn campaign.

Best ValueRace 5 – Tycoon Humma (#1) $6 with Ladbrokes
