Sale racing preview

What Sale Races
Where Sale Turf Club – 1227 Maffra-Sale Rd, Sale VIC 3850
When Sunday, April 2, 2023
First Race 12:50pm AEST

Racing heads to Sale Racecourse on Sunday afternoon, where a competitive eight-race program is set down for decision. With plenty of rain in the area we are set be running on a Heavy 10, while the rail sticks to the true position throughout. Racing gets underway at 12:50pm AEST.

Best Bet at Sale: Fame

We do not need to wait too long on Sunday for our best bet of the day, as the Peter Moody-trained Fame steps out in the opening event on the card. The three-year-old gelding did enough first-up from a spell at Sandown on March 15 when beaten two lengths. However, it is his form last campaign that has us excited. He finished 1.25 lengths off the smart Dunkel on a Heavy 10 at Moonee Valley, and also finished 1.35 lengths off subsequent Group 1 winner Lindermann. He draws barrier two, and if Billy Egan can have him settled on the leaders’ heels throughout and in clear air on the home turn, Fame should prove a touch too slick for his rivals over 1400m.

Best Bet

Race 1 – silks#3 Fame (2)

3yo Gelding | T: Peter Moody | J: Billy Egan (58kg)

$2.50 with Bet365

Next Best at Sale: Sweetened

We will be looking to bookend the program, as the Ben & JD Hayes-trained Sweetened looks a great play in the final event of the day. The three-year-old looked in need of the run when resuming at Pakenham over 1000m and appears ideally suited stepping up to the 1200m second-up from a spell. The Zoustar filly has a win already under her belt on Heavy ground and, with Damien Oliver on board from barrier seven, looks perfectly placed to add a second. If Ollie can have her settled midfield with cover inside the first 200m, the race may be over a long way out.

Next Best

Race 8 – silks#2 Sweetened (7)

3yo Filly | T: Ben & JD Hayes | J: Damien Oliver (59kg)

$2.50 with Ladbrokes

Best Value at Sale: Angel Of Boom

The Dylan Dunn-trained Angel Of Boom has been progressing towards a win in her first two runs this campaign, and Sunday may be her chance. The four-year-old looks to hold a tactical advantage over some of her rivals with the want to roll forward from barrier 10. She has placed twice on Soft surfaces, so we hope the Heavy track she gets on the weekend will be no issue for this Spirit Of Boom mare. With race experience on her side and the fact that odds-on favourite Moko looks to be a bit of a cat, we’re happy to take the $14 on offer with online bookmakers about Angel Of Boom.

Best Value

Race 2 – silks#2 Angel Of Boom (10)

4yo Mare | T: Dylan Dunn | J: Jake Noonan (58kg)

$14 with Neds
