Russian Revolution rushes to the line to take out the Galaxy
PETER and Paul Snowden have trained the quinella in the Group 1 Galaxy Handicap as Russian Revolution surged to the line to clip stablemate Redzel right on the line at Rosehill.
Both runners were up on the speed for the majority of the 1100m journey, and gapped the field alongside long-time leader Jungle Edge.
Co-trainer Paul Snowden said it was a great result for the stable.
“Both horses have run terrific. I couldn’t have asked for anything better,” Snowden said.
Redzel looked to have the race won at the 200m mark, but the race favourite found an extra gear as the line loomed and hit the front at the right time to pay $3 at WilliamHill.com.au.
The unlucky Redzel held on for second and return $2.70 at Crownbet.com.au while the wet-tracker Jungle Edge put in a startling performance to pay $9.80 the place at Sportsbet.com.au.
Russian Revolution was vetted at the gates and eventually passed fit to run, but jockey Kerrin McEvoy was concerned the horse may not have been good to go.
“I feared he might have twisted a plate and we checked behind the gates and he had twisted a hind one,” McEvoy said.
McEvoy said Russian Revolution showed its fortitude in the run where not a lot went right.
“He showed a lot last prep, a group two winner against some good quality colts wasn’,t beaten far in the Coolmore and fair play to Peter and Paul (Snowden) they delivered him here first up against older horses, he had the weight pull but he had to do it the tough way,” he said.
“I was four-deep the trip and the horse dug deep, his star is on the rise that is for sure.”
Despite the tough run in transit, Russian Revolution hit the line like a freight train to claim the win.
Snowden said the difference between Redzel and Russian Revolution was the weight relief the winner took in to the Galaxy.
“We knew that light weight was going to kick in at some stage and obviously it was late in those last 100 yards,” the co-trainer said.
“That’s the only difference at the end of the day.”
It may have just claimed its maiden group one win, but Snowden is already looking into the future.
Snowden said it is a “massive possibility” that the Galaxy winner now goes on to tackle the T.J. Smith Stakes during The Championships.
“That is a massive possibility. We just have to make sure he comes through this okay. He has put in a massive performance today,” Snowden added.
