Rosehill Guineas betting tips

A field of 15 three-year-olds will do battle in the Group 1 Sky Racing Rosehill Guineas (2000m) this Saturday. A number of these come through a key lead up in the Randwick Guineas, while we also see Australian Guineas winner Lunar Fox come north for his first run in Sydney. Mo’unga is the $3.60 favourite after flashing late in the Randwick Guineas a fortnight ago, with the victor in that race, Lion’s Roar, at $8.50. A further four horses have been added to the final field, including New Zealand Derby runner-up Milford, Tasmanian Derby winner Explosive Jack, and Alistair Clark winner Grandslam. Here To Shock will go forward again with Grandslam, along with Wheelhouse and Kobestar. The top three in the market will most likely be out the back and running on strongly.

It is extremely hard to go past Mo’unga after he absolutely flew home in the Randwick Guineas three weeks ago. The Annabel Neasham-trained colt has had a fairly big spruik surrounding him since his maiden win at Newcastle, which rated very highly, and he now gets his chance to really prove himself as a genuine star. With even luck a fortnight ago he would no doubt have won the Randwick Guineas and now be well on his way to securing the Triple Crown. He has drawn ideally in barrier six under Tommy Berry, and he should get through the Heavy going. He is the testing material.

New Zealand Derby runner-up Milford was only beaten in a photo by Rocket Spade on a Soft track over 2400m. These types of horses generally thrive when they get to Sydney this time of year, so he should relish the Heavy track in a genuinely run 2000m race. Drawn in barrier three under Tim Clark, he should be able to find an ideal run in transit. By Savabeel, he is bred to handle the wet track, and 2000m will be right up his alley, so we are keen to save on him. He will be right there at the business end and should be one of the favourites in the ATC Derby.

Lion’s Roar was racing away from everything bar Mo’unga in the Randwick Guineas, giving both himself and Brenton Avdulla a Group 1 win. The Contributer gelding has now won and been a runner-up in the two Group 1 races he has contested, and he looks a natural stayer who will appreciate the 2000m again on Saturday. He has drawn an outside alley (12), which will allow him to settle in the second half of the field with cover and then come for his run around them. He won his maiden on a Heavy track, so we expect him to get through the conditions without any troubles. He is probably over the odds now.
