The only turf meeting in New Zealand on Saturday is being held in the South Island at Riccarton with eight races carded on what will likely remain a Heavy surface. The first race kicks off at 11:50am (NZST).
Best Bet: Deels Done (Race 7)
Deels Done is racing his way back to full fitness after four starts back from a spell. His last two runs have been in unsuitable contests and he drops back into his right class. The key is the 3kg claim from visiting North Island apprentice Lemmy Douglas and also the fact that the Stephen Marsh stable is running hot at the moment. This fellow was last seen over 2600m, so his fitness won’t be in doubt, and by this race it will come down to the survival of the fitness.

Rabada resumed from a short let-up after shifting stables from the North Island to the South Island earlier this month and produced a big effort for second place on the synthetic track here. He had been thereabouts on wet tracks up north prior to that and his recent effort would have tightened him up nicely for this suitable assignment. He made an uncharacteristic slow beginning last time out but should bounce out quicker this weekend with the more familiar turf surface under his hoofs.

Best Value Bet: Divovski (Race 8)
Divovski is up from the deep south to make his track debut, and though his recent form has been indifferent, his recent market support suggests he is doing everything right at home. In his favour is the step up to a middle distance and the likelihood of a very heavy track. This, coupled with a handy 3kg apprentice claim, points to a turnaround in form. A wide draw will suit and he should be grinding home late at nice each-way odds.
