The South Island of New Zealand is hosting another race meeting on Saturday, this time at Riccarton. The action kicks off at 11:20am NZST, with 10 races carded on what is likely to be a heavy surface with showery weather forecast on the day.
BEST BET AT RICCARTON – THE GOOD SHEPHERD
In race eight, Stephen Blair-Edie’s The Good Shepherd looks very hard to beat with jockey Gosen Jogoo again doing the riding. This six-year-old by Power is proven in the mud and is looking for his third win in a row over his favourite distance of 1200m. The wide barrier draw of 10 will not be a problem as the field is smaller and he has the speed to get over the top of his rivals at a nice price with the top racing bookmakers.

In race seven, the Lisa Latta-trained Amosia is running over her favourite distance of 1200m and will appreciate the Heavy track rating, where she’s had 16 starts for three wins and six minor placings. There should be a good win price on this horse to be found with jockey Lilly Sutherland doing the riding and claiming 2kg.

BEST VALUE AT RICCARTON – KICK ON
In race nine, the Kevin Myers-trained Kick On should be improved for his engagement in the $110,000 Group 3 Winter Cup after a tidy third at his last start over 1200m. The step up to 1600m is ideal having previously raced 15 times over the distance for five wins and six placings, and the heavy track will not be a problem. With jockey Tina Comignaghi engaged to ride, there should be a good each-way price to be found on this Per Encanto gelding.
