Racing in the South Island of New Zealand this Saturday is being held at Riccarton on a likely Heavy track with 10 competitive races carded. The first kicks off at 11:30am (NZDT).
Best Bet at Riccarton – Cu Chulainn
Cu Chulainn did take his time to wind up in the straight here last start before letting down with purpose and getting up late to score a narrow win against Penvose Lad, who should again be his main rival on Saturday. He has to give away an extra 2kg on the weekend but should also be that much fitter again. The heavy track will also be in his favour and he is expected to race a lot closer to the speed on this occasion. He is a tough customer who can get the job done again.

Next Best at Riccarton – Luella Cristina
The feature of the day is the time-honoured Warstep Stakes for three-year-old fillies over the mile, and on top has to be Luella Cristina. She peaked on her run late here last week in what was her first start in nearly a month, and will be much sharper for this targeted assignment. You will note she is royally bred being out of Lucia Valentina and will have no problem with a heavy track. She is poised to set the record straight on Saturday. Follow your money.

Best Value at Riccarton – The Big Boss
The last race is a wide-open Rating 65 affair with many chances and down the bottom of the page we find The Big Boss – who is drawn wide, but by this time of the day that is exactly where you want to be. The key on Saturday is the in-form Kylie Williams returning to the saddle as she was aboard when this mare was successful two starts back. Her best form comes when the tracks are at their worst, and after three runs already this month she won’t lack fitness. Her odds at the moment are well worth playing on an each-way basis.
