HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the seven-race meeting on the Kensington track at Randwick Racecourse this Wednesday. The track is rated a Good 3, while the rail is out 4m for the entirety of the course. The opening race of the day is set to jump at 2pm AEDT.

Randwick-Kensington Best Bet – Conrad

We were keen on Conrad’s chances last week on the provincial circuit, but the son of Maurice was scratched in preference to run on Wednesday. The Kim Waugh-trained three-year-old is lightly raced, having only had four career starts, winning twice and placing runner-up. His only blemish came in Group 3 company as a two-year-old when finishing six lengths off the winner, Saif, crossing the line around subsequent Group 1 winner Converge and current VRC Derby fancy Forgot You. James McDonald has ridden the gelding in three of his four starts, but given he is in quarantine to ride Zaaki in this Saturday’s Cox Plate, Alysha Collett will take over the reigns, which is no great disadvantage. Drawn well in barrier six, Conrad will either lead or box seat under Collett, which will make the progressive galloper extremely hard to beat over the 1400m. He is the type of horse who could run a bold race against his own age in Group races during the Sydney Autumn Carnival.

Next Best Bet at Randwick-Kensington – Mightybeel

Another horse coming off a win and losing James McDonald from the saddle is Chris Waller’s Mightybeel. This four-year-old son of Savabeel was backed as if unbeatable at Rosehill on October 6 and lived right up to the market support, racing away to win by over three lengths. Mightybeel does drop back from the 1900m to 1800m in this race and rises 3kg in weight, which is some concern, but if he repeats what he did three weeks ago, there is nothing in this field that can beat him. The recently returned Glyn Schofield will have the riding honours, and while he has not necessarily hit the ground running with two wins from 29 rides since returning to the saddle, he has only been on three horses to start in single figures, winning once and finishing runner-up on the other two occasions. Barrier seven will see Mightybeel midfield – hopefully with cover – and finishing over the top of them late.

Next Best Again at Randwick-Kensington – Le Vizir

It is unlikely that we will get $14 after Le Vizir’s dominant first-up win at Warwick Farm on October 4, but we are hopeful that the market doesn’t gravitate completely towards this four-year-old entire either. Trained by Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou, the son of French stallion Siyouni has had seven starts for three wins and a third, including a brilliant 3.7-length victory first-up over 1200m. He now rises to 1300m, which is going to suit, and while this is no doubt tougher and he rises 3kg in weight, he looked to do it easily and should improve greatly from the run now that he will be second-up and out in trip. Robbie Dolan gets to keep the ride, and given that the pair won from the outside alley last start, drawing barrier six in this field of 11 should give Dolan more options, which will only enhance the entire’s winning chances. We are keen to follow him this campaign as he gets over the mile.
