Kensington betting tips for June 15, 2022

What Kensington Races
Where Royal Randwick Racecourse – Alison Rd, Randwick NSW 2031
When Wednesday, June 15, 2022
First Race 12:50pm AEST

Seven races are scheduled to be run and won on the Kensington track at Randwick on Wednesday, June 15, with the first of those set to jump at 12:50pm AEST. The track is a Soft 5 and the rail is in the true position for the entire course. HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie numbers for the program.

Best Bet at Kensington – Steel Diamond

This is one of the more open midweek cards we have seen in a long time, with only one favourite across the seven races currently $4 or less with online bookmakers. We are going to the last race of the day for our best, siding with the Chris Waller-trained Steel Diamond in what is her first run for the preparation. The five-year-old mare by Star Witness has a good first-up record, with a win and three minor placings coming from her six fresh runs. She will get a sweet run from barrier five under Hugh Bowman and can hopefully send her backers home with a bang in the last.

Best Bet

Race 7 – Silk #3 Steel Diamond (4)

5yo Mare | T: Chris Waller | J: Hugh Bowman (59kg)

$4 with Ladbrokes

Next Best at Kensington – Esprit Lucand

The two-year-old fillies go around in the second race of the day, and one filly who looks to have been overlooked by the market is Mark Newnham’s Esprit Lucand. On debut, the daughter of Bel Esprit rocketed home at Goulburn to run third behind Emilia Romagna and Wingardium. The latter won a two-year-old race at Randwick on Saturday, while Emilia Romagna was not beaten far in the same race as favourite. Blinkers go on on Wednesday, barrier two will allow Joshua Parr to be closer in the run and the improving track should be ideal. This looks a great bet.

Next Best

Race 2 – Silk #4 Esprit Lucand (2)

2yo Filly | T: Mark Newnham | J: Joshua Parr (56kg)

$8.50 with Bet365

Best Value at Kensington – Baby Wong

Baby Wong has always been a horse we have respect for, having raced well as a two-year-old in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in 2021. The three-year-old gelding by Press Statement has only won the one race which was more than 12 months ago, but he has only raced four more times since then, with two of those runs in group company, while another saw him run third behind Sky Command and Dragonstone, with the latter winning Saturday’s Listed Bob Charley AO Stakes at Randwick. Stephen Jones has given this horse two nice trials in preparation for his first-up run, while the booking of Chris Williams sees the horse get in with 61kg after the claim. He can return as a winner.

Best Value

Race 5 – Silk #6 Po Kare Kare (2)

3yo Gelding | T: Stephen Jones | J: Chris Williams (a2)(63kg)
