HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for Wednesday’s seven-race meeting on the Kensington track at Randwick. On what is the first metropolitan race day in February, the rail will be in the true position, while the track is likely to be a Good 4 with perfect conditions forecast for Sydney over the next 48 hours, although some rain is expected on Wednesday. The first race of the afternoon is due to jump at 2:20pm AEDT.

Best Bet – Devil’s Throat

Maiden gallopers will contest the opening race of the day on Wednesday, and one horse who we are extremely confident can break through is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Devil’s Throat. The three-year-old gelded son of Snitzel has been runner-up on three occasions, including his most recent start when two-tenths of a length behind Warmth in the Magic Millions Maiden at the Gold Coast. Devil’s Throat was very well backed that day, firming from $6.50 into $3.50 joint favouritism with the eventual winner, with an ounce of bad luck being his undoing. Drawn well in barrier four under Tommy Berry, the maiden galloper should land in the box seat behind some speedy types and be able to come away with the victory. To win this, Devil’s Throat only needs to reproduce form which has seen him finish close to the likes of Brigantine, Flying Crazy and Tristate.

Next Best Bet – Easy Campese

In the penultimate race, John Sargent and Ellen Hennessy will combine with top weight Easy Campese. The four-year-old has been scratched twice over the past week, so we are hoping that the connections’ patience has paid off. The son of Sidestep has had two starts on the Kensington circuit, winning comfortably on May 19 and finishing one length away from Kingsheir back in August 2020. Recently, the gelding has been thereabouts in his three runs, finishing third when fresh at Rosehill Gardens behind Ma And Pa, before running 6.5 lengths off his rivals in a Midway on November 20 at Kembla Grange, and then bouncing back in a similar race at Rosehill on January 15 to go down by three-tenths of a length. Hennessy has had four rides on the four-year-old, winning twice and finishing in the minor money on the other two occasions, so her booking is a vital one, while the 3kg claim brings his weight right down to only 59.5kg, which is a big advantage. Set to jump from barrier two, Easy Campese and Hennessy can get a dream run just off the speed and look to return to the winner’s stall together.

Best Value Bet – Cap Estel

The third race of the day is another maiden, with this one over 1400m for the three-year-olds. One of the more experienced gallopers in this field is seven-start veteran Cap Estel. The filly by Zoustar has placed on four occasions and brings some decent maiden form to this race, behind the likes of Mr Mozart, Jal Lei, French Emperor and, most recently, Po Kare Kare. The Anthony Cummings-trained three-year-old got a long way back in her first-up run behind Po Kare Kare, but she was really strong late under hands and heels. Jason Collett was only able to give her two cracks with the whip in the concluding stages of the race due to how tightly bunched a group of horses were, which ultimately cost his mount finishing closer. That run came over 1250m at Canterbury, so she should appreciate getting out to 1400m in a race with less class. From barrier two, we are hoping to see Collett settle a pair or two closer in the run, which will give Cap Estel every chance to win her first race. The $5.50 at Sportsbet is worth a crack.

Best VenueRace 3 – Cap Estel (#8) $5.50 with Sportsbet
