Railway Stakes Black Heart Bart vs. Scales Of Justice betting

Black Heart Bart vs Scales Of Justice Railway Stakes

TWO Western Australian legends journey back across the Nullarbor after east coast stints in search of group one glory and a $1 million pay cheque.

Black Heart Bart’s exploits have been magical since joining the Darren Weir camp, winning multiple group one crowns in both Melbourne and Adelaide. One thing the sandgropper native has never claimed however is a G1 title in its home state.

Scales Of Justice kick-started its career in this race last year, winning as somewhat of an outsider. The five-year-old gelding will attempt to become the first horse to successfully defend its Railway Stakes crown since Tudor Mak went back-to-back in 1967-68.

We believe these are the two horses that will be fighting out the finish in Saturday’s feature, but which horse will steamroll their way to a Railway Stakes success?

Black Heart Bart form

Black Heart Bart
Can Black Heart Bart breakthrough for its first-ever Western Australian G1 title?

It’s been seven weeks since we have seen Black Heart Bart, but the seven-year-old’s form was fairly decent before being sent west.

Aside from a fifth-placed finish in the Underwood Stakes – where the horse incidentally was only two lengths off the winner – BHB had not missed a placing this preparation. Two of those races were group one events, just to highlight the quality of fields it has confronted.

We feel like this race has been in the cross hairs for the Weir team and the owners for a while now. Seven weeks seems like the perfect let up for a horse that loves to race fresh and we are expecting a strong performance on Saturday.

Scales Of Justice form

Scales of Justice
Scales Of Justice is primed to go back-to-back in the Railway Stakes

There should be some cause for concern for Scales Of Justice backers ahead of the Railway Stakes.

Racing back in Western Australia for the first-time since a fruitless expedition east, the five-year-old could only manage a third placing as a $1.50 favourite in the Group Two Waroa-Lee Steere Stakes.

The huge plus for the horse is the record at Ascot.

Across its last five runs at the venue Scales Of Justice has triumphed three times and finished second on the other two attempts.

Backers will be hoping the failed G2 Ascot run on November 11 was simply an aberration for a horse that has thrived on Perth’s premier track.

Black Heart Bart vs. Scales Of Justice betting tip

We cannot wait for this one.

Black Heart Bart for us just edges out the defending champion Scales Of Justice in this race. Darren Weir said he was “happy” BHB drew 59kg in this race, which boosts our confidence of a huge run coming on Saturday.

Whether or not Scales Of Justice’s loss at Ascot on the 11th was an actual sign of things to come or just a cobweb expelling experience remains to be seen, but any runner that goes down as a $1.50 favourite has to generate some kind of worry for the trainers.

Black Heart Bart’s big race pedigree cannot be questioned and the horse never fails to turn up and compete. We are backing the gelding to deliver in the Railway Stakes.
