Russian Camelot aiming for All Star Mile

Russian Camelot news

Remember how Russian Camelot was going to be the greatest horse of all time and would win a bar fight if he went in there blindfolded? OK, that may have been a touch of an exaggeration (but not by much), but the Danny O’Brien-trained galloper only managed to snare the one Group 1 title – the Underwood Stakes – during his spring campaign. Since heading to the paddock after his effort in the Melbourne Cup, he’s been nominated for the All Star Mile and has come up a joint favourite at $9 alongside WA star Arcadia Queen. It’s anyone’s guess who comes out on top when they do battle in the richest race over the mile in March, but it’s sure to be a must-watch race.

Willow headed for spell after big spring

Craig Williams news

Superstar Victorian jockey Craig Williams has decided to enjoy a well-earned rest after another massive spring campaign. He’s aiming to be back riding early in the new year with some important bookings coming up in the autumn, such as September Run and Instant Celebrity. Williams will need to come back in red-hot form if he wants to catch the low-flying Jamie Kah, who is in his way of claiming six straight jockey premierships in Melbourne. Williams isn’t the only jockey heading for a spell, with Damian Lane also opting for some time away from the pigskin.

Another Aussie heading to Hong Kong

Endanger news

Another rising star in Australian racing has been sold on to Hong Kong to continue their racing career. This time it is the Godolphin galloper Endanger, who claimed the Listed Gothic Stakes and placed in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes this spring. Connections were offered a large seven-figure sum for the lightly raced three-year-old gelding, and it’s safe to say the only thing that is now endangered (we’ll see ourselves out) is their livers with plenty of bevs on the agenda to celebrate.
