Punt Drunk: Premiership Dog turns master punter with $200k multi

Western Bulldogs - 2016 AFL Premiership

We hope the hangovers have subsided following a massive weekend on the punt and the beers. We have a couple of Group 1 races to build up to with the Tancred Stakes and the Vinery Stud Stakes both set to run at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday. Speaking of the Tancred, the $6 for Melody Belle in all-in markets that have Verry Elleegant and Colette even though both will skip the race? Yes please!

Big-name jockeys to sit on the sidelines

It was a perfect steer from Nash Rawiller that saw Eduardo take out The Galaxy on Saturday afternoon, but his rides on Avilius and Four Moves Ahead on Saturday have seen him suspended until early May. Golden Slipper-winning jockey Tommy Berry is also set to miss two weeks after pleading guilty to excessive use of the whip when lifting Mo’unga over the line in the Rosehill Guineas. Add in Tom Marquand’s three-meeting suspension and the NSW jockey room is going to have a few new faces leading the way.

Premiership Dog lands a ridiculous multi

Tory Dickson, a premiership player for the Western Bulldogs in 2016, is now a punting master. The 33-year-old former footballer had a seven-leg $50 multi still alive heading into the final race at Bendigo on Saturday afternoon. To land the ridiculous multi, Dickson needed his good mate Michael Kent Jr to have his runner Fighting Harada salute in the last. Salute he did, and in impressive style too. Dickson would have had his money spent when Fighting Harada entered the home straight just behind the leader before kicking clear over the final 200m. How much did he win, you ask? A cool $200,000 – not bad for a $50 spend, if you ask us!

Bye bye, Bossy

Imagine having the cojones to say to Glen Boss, “thanks, but no thanks”? Well, that is what connections of the James Cummings-trained Bivouac have done following a couple of poor performances to begin his autumn campaign. Hugh Bowman will instead take the ride on Bivouac when the pair reunite in the TJ Smith Stakes in a fortnight. It is remarkable that Bossy has been given the flick when he’s had five rides on Biv for two Group 1 victories and a third-place finish in The Everest last year. We all know how good Hughy is, and all eyes will be on the pair come day one of The Championships.

Monday racing tips – March 29, 2021

Punt Drunk’s best bet of the day

Ryan Wiggins on a front runner at Townsville on a Monday? Yes please. Bold Eos will look to take up the running from gate three, and we expect him to lead from barrier to box despite giving away a couple of kilos to her market rivals. She has three wins from four starts at the Townsville 1300m, and she should have no trouble bringing up win number four in this.
