Punt Drunk: MRC confirms plans for $570m Caulfield upgrade

Caulfield Racecourse plans

The fields for the weekend’s racing around the country have not disappointed, and the support card that Caulfield will have against The Championships at Randwick fits in perfectly. The team at HorseBetting.com.au are running the rule over the Saturday meetings, so make sure to keep an eye out for all of our best bets.

Caulfield set for mega upgrade

Caulfield Racecourse is set to be redeveloped into a precinct 10 times the size of the MCG. The $570 million upgrade will feature a large concert space, seven sporting fields, and an indoor sporting complex, which will all be linked to areas outside of the track by tunnels. The Melbourne Racing Club has committed to $285 million of the spend, with most of the funds coming from the proposed sale of Sandown Racecourse. Work is set to get underway in 2023, with construction of a second track designated for night racing also in the plans. This is going to be bloody unreal, and we can’t wait to fork out a ridiculous price for the overpriced craft beers that will be sold on Caulfield race days going forward.

Eduardo vs Nature Strip: Episode 6

Nature Strip is the best sprinter in the country, and perhaps he could be the best in the world at some point over the next 12 months with a trip to Royal Ascot on the cards. He and his rival Eduardo are set to renew hostilities in Queensland when they run in the Doomben 10,000 in a month’s time. Following Nature Strip’s devastating win in the TJ Smith Stakes, Eduardo will need one hell of a form turnaround to take out the $1 million feature. Joe Pride has dubbed Eduardo the best sprinter in the world, which implies that he should smash Nature Strip in Brisbane. But the odds of that actually happening? Buckley’s and none, in our most humble opinion.

Punt Drunk’s best bet of the day

On the back of a well-rated steer from Bobby El-Issa, Cinnamon Missile should settle just on the outside of race favourite Silent Explorer. With a touch of race fitness on his side and the step back in distance, the John Manzelmann-trained gelding should bring up his first win at 1400m at his 13th attempt.
