When Thursday, April 15, 2021
First Race 1:20pm AEST

Just the seven races will be run and won at Newcastle on Thursday, with the first set to jump at 1:20pm local time. The track is currently rated a Good 4, and the rail is out 5m for the entire circumference of the course. HorseBetting.com.au has found you three good bets and some quaddie selections for the provincial meeting in the Hunter.

Best Bet: Osamu

Annabel Neasham and Tommy Berry partner up in race four with maiden galloper Osamu. The son of Exceed And Excel has contested plenty of Group races in his 11 career starts, running second on five occasions. After finishing nine lengths off Rocketing By in the Inglis Sprint on February 6, the three-year-old gelding should be fresh enough to be effective here. The 1200m is going to suit, as he should get almost an uncontested lead from barrier two. We can’t see him losing this.

Best BetRace 4 – Osamu (#7) $1.45 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Deepwood Vale

Redoute’s Choice mare Deepwood Vale has built a nice racing record with three wins and four minor placings from 10 career starts. The four-year-old mare was a fast-finishing second at this track on March 30, so now fourth up she should be rock-hard fit to be competitive again. Her last-start second came over 1400m when chasing hard late, so she should be cherry ripe for the rise to 1600m this week. Paul Messara has booked apprentice jockey Reece Jones, who has a 3kg claim, knows the mare well and can steer her to victory this Thursday.

Next BestRace 2 – Deepwood Vale (#5) $3 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Cliffs Of Moher

Any horse who was beaten in a Group 1 last start and then drop to a Benchmark 64 has to be respected, especially when that defeat came less than nine lengths behind Verry Elleegant and Addeybb. The Paul Cave-trained Cliffs Of Moher was sent out as a $151 chance in last month’s Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill, which should stack up on Thursday in a weak 2330m race. The son of Adelaide rises only half a kilo and gets the services of Kathy O’Hara from barrier seven. His record at Newcastle is handy, with a win and a third from just two races. He can bounce back at a nice price.

Best ValueRace 3 – Cliffs Of Moher (#1) $6 with Sportsbet
