Punt Drunk: Crosshaven taking the last plane out of Sydney

Hong Kong

Punt Drunk Daily – 3/3/2021

Happy Hump Day, punters, and welcome to another edition of #PuntDrunk – your one-stop shop for racing news, betting tips and good old-fashioned banter.

With six local gallops to help get us through the midweek blues, the team at HorseBetting will try to ensure you finish your Wednesday afternoon on the punt well in front – and with a bit of luck, you will have enjoyed a frothy or three along the way.

Let’s get into it, chaps!

Another star headed to Hong Kong

For what feels like the 10th time this year, a top-class Australian galloper has been sold on to Hong Kong. Having taken out two Group 3 events in his career and placed in a Group 1, Crosshaven will soon be under the watchful eye of David Hayes in HK. The three-year-old gelding picked up a foot injury in the Futurity Stakes a fortnight ago and was a no show in the Australian Guineas, but that has not deterred a wealthy buyer in Asia. An offer of around $1.6 million was tabled, and you can understand why the owners would jump at that sort of money. Who knows what Crosshaven can achieve in Hong Kong?

The worst way to begin a Tuesday morning

You wake up at stupid o’clock on Tuesday morning to take a float full of horses down to Tamworth for a jump out. You have skipped breakfast, you are on the road and everything is going as expected. But then, disaster! Todd Howlett had planned to gallop Tamworth Country Championships runner Toto on Tuesday, but his float full of horses spun out en route to the track and caused a massive shock to the system. Howlett had five horses on the float, and unfortunately one did not make it home. We would like to pass on our thoughts to all of the connections. Drive carefully, legends.

Punt Drunk’s best bet of the day

It is almost a chips-in type of bet today. Master Of Zerprise was a loyal servant to us a fortnight ago, and we are hoping he can deliver in a similar way at coin-flip odds. Jessica Eaton and Mick Huxtable strike at 53% when they combine, and with a sweeping run from the back of the field he will be incredibly hard to beat.
