Punt Drunk: Could Barocha make it three-from-three in Hong Kong?

Punt Drunk Daily – 28/3/21

WELL, that was certainly worth the wait wasn’t it? Boy weren’t we spoilt rotten yesterday afternoon at Rosehill! Start it off with Verry Elleegant turning the tables on the ever impressive Addeybb in the Ranvet Stakes when capturing her 8th Group 1 success. Mo’unga then rewarded favourite backers in the Rosehill Guineas when handing Annabel Neasham her first Group 1 success as a trainer, before Bossy floored us in the George Ryder Stakes lifting Think It Over to Group 1 glory to also hand Kerry Parker his maiden Group 1 victory. Then, it was the big one, the Golden Slipper for 2021. It was a familiar sight seeing Tommy Berry win his third Golden Slipper in honour of his late brother Nathan Berry for the Freedman team aboard Stay Inside. Before the Group 1 successes wound up with Nash Rawiller steering Eduardo to an all the way victory in The Galaxy. Add in Annavisto and Ironclad building on their impressive records at Bendigo, as well as Starry Legend showing his potential class, along with plenty of knock out results in Adelaide! It was one of the more enjoyable days on the punt, and hopefully you have woken up well and truly in front!

Speaking of Eduardo

Sure, all the headlines yesterday afternoon would have gone to Tommy Berry aboard Stay Inside in the Golden Slipper or JMac with his win on Verry Ellegant in The Ranvet Stakes. However, we are concentrating on the transformation of the former Victorian sprinter Eduardo. Remember when he was a costly bugger to back? Always promising a big performance, but inevitably letting us down. Well, the now Joe Pride-trained gelding is officially a Group 1 winner following a dominant performance in The Galaxy at Rosehill. On his day he is up there as one of the fastest sprinters in the country, just look at the pace he set in The Everest last year or the way he lipped out Nature Strip in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes only three weeks ago. Since moving to Joe Pride’s stable he has had six starts in Sydney for four wins, and that is certainly something to rave about!

“Text message” horse set for HK debut

Remember the text message that went around when Clayton Douglas was about to unveil Barocha at Sale back on August 13? It was a message essentially declaring him a moral and the best thing since sliced bread. Well after his second victory at Geelong connections could not knock back a ridiculous amount of money for the potential star and he was shipped off to Hong Kong. He is now set to debut later this afternoon in Race 5 at Sha Tin under a new name Beauty Fit and hopefully under a gun steer from Joao Moreira for John Size the pair can do us Aussie punters a favour and help make it 3/3! If his last trial in Hong Kong is anything to go by, he is going to be extremely hard to beat.

Punt Drunk’s Best Bet Of The Day

Imagine this, a genuine leader, a wet track and the rail out 10m at the Sunshine Coast! Sounds the perfect recipe for success for Foreign Territory, now add in the 1.5kg claim of Jaden Lloyd and we are chips in. Despite drawing wide in barrier eight, we expect the Stuart Kendrick-trained Foreign Territory to head to the front and not be headed to build on his impressive campaign thus far.
