Punt Drunk: Apprentice lauded for superhuman effort at Mildura

Wonder Woman - Gal Gadot

We have gotten through the Monday blues and we are one day closer to the weekend. With plenty of meetings to be run and won this week, we should find a way into a few winners thanks to the team here at HorseBetting.com.au.

The GOAT Elizabeth Stakes?

Sorry, Liz, we have to pinch your name for a second because the field that is set to go around in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes on Saturday has us frothing at the mouth. Start it off with last year’s winner, Addeybb, an absolute weapon who will stay all day; he takes on Caulfield Cup winner Verry Elleegant, Cox Plate winner Sir Dragonet, All Star Mile winner Mugatoo, Rosehill Guineas winner Mo’unga and George Ryder Stakes winner Think It Over. Saddle up, lads – this is going to be a ripping edition of the QE Stakes!

She did what? Bull!

Tatum Bull is hardly a household name in the jockey ranks, but her efforts at Mildura on Monday were something to behold. The young apprentice was dislodged in the opening stages of Race 2 and was subsequently stood down from riding in Race 3, but she returned to the saddle in Race 4 and rode Vivacious Award to victory just an hour after her fall. The day wasn’t over for Bull, who also scored on the Cindy Brander-trained Park Bench in Race 6. It is a truly amazing feat, when you think about it; told you can’t ride in one race due to injury, and then within two hours you have ridden two winners. Fair play, Tatum – we tip our pints to ya!

Punt Drunk’s best bet of the day

The Stephen Massingham-trained Battle Cry has won first up in the past and will appreciate getting back to Cairns, where he has two wins from starts at the track. Zac Lloyd’s 3kg claim gets them in well at the weights with just 59kg, and we expect the pair to use barrier one to their advantage and dictate terms throughout. If given a quiet time of it in front, Battle Cry looks the one to beat in the opening leg of the Cairns quaddie.
