Best Bet: Alpha Go
Tony Newing’s Alpha Go has been in good form of late, winning at the Gold Coast two starts ago and only just missing to Moonan Me at Ipswich on March 30. That runner-up effort came over 1200m off a 31-day freshen up, and he just peaked late having tried to lead all of the way. The three-year-old gelding will be fitter going into this one over 1300m, and he will be the sole speed influence in the race from barrier nine. He can go one better in a much easier race.

Next Best: Flying Euros
The son of Eurozone is flying the flag for the non-winners team, with 10 minor placings from 20 starts. Flying Euros is yet to break through despite finishing second in his first three starts back in 2019. He won’t find an easier race than this one against some other horses who will struggle to ever place in a race again, so we are giving him a big chance to shake the monkey off his back. Drawn out in gate 10, Matt McGuren will take the four-year-old gelding into a prominent position and hope to fend off his rivals.

Best Value: Moonhawk
We expected Paul Smith’s gelding Moonhawk to open as favourite on Tuesday off the back six consecutive placings. He didn’t arrive in time over 800m when first up off a three-month break, so the rise to 1100m – where he has won before – should suit. The four-year-old son of Moonlark has had three starts at Armidale and never missed the podium, so he should run up to that again. Jon Grisedale should be able to box seat from barrier three and get this gelding home for a well-deserved win.
