A field of 10 two-year-old fillies will go around in Saturday’s $1 million Percy Sykes Stakes over 1200m. The undefeated Najmaty is the current $2.60 favourite with racing bookies ahead of impressive debut winner Crystal Bound and Trifaccia. The speed looks to be set by Crystal Bound, A Very Fine Red, Joyous Legend and Arcaded, while Najmaty and Trifaccia will be in the second half of the field. HB’s New South Wales expert has found you the main chances in the race.

James Cummings came to the fore early on Day 1 of The Championships and we expect that to continue into Day 2. Despite being a maiden in a pretty strong field, we are keen on Trifaccia in this Group 2 contest. The I Am Invincible filly did everything wrong on debut, racing with her head up in the air and mouth wide open and she was wide throughout but still finished off strongly with the best last 800m race sectional. She backed that up with another similar effort albeit with better racing manners in the Reisling Stakes when third to Glistening. That form looks good enough and she has drawn well, out in nine to stay out of trouble.

Arcaded comes into this off a nice win in the Magic Knight Stakes, so she has to be respected, especially at the price. She has only tasted defeat once which same in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes in February. Hugh Bowman will do the steering from gate seven, which should have her about three pairs back on the outside of runners, before charges in the straight. Her three wins have seen her win by a cumulative margin of seven lengths, so she has the sharp turn of foot to really gap these.

The other runner that must be respected is the race favourite, Najmaty. The Snowden-trained filly has won her two career starts so far, which saw her go from a midweek Kensington 2YO Fillies Maiden to a Listed win at Caulfield. Having drawn well in gate four, James McDonald is likely to restrain the I Am Invincible filly to midfield and allow the race to unfold. She looks the ultimate professional.
