When Monday, October 3, 2022
First Race 12pm AEDT

We are back on the Pakenham Synthetic on Monday afternoon with a 10-race card after getting the meeting transferred from Kyneton due to the state of the track.

The rail stays in the True positioning as it was on September 22 when we raced here last time, with that in mind, tend to favour horses more towards the speed or getting wider on the track avoiding the kick back from the leaders. However, with good weather forecast for Monday afternoon, we suspect you can be winning from anywhere on the day.

We kick off the card from 12:00pm AEST and are in for a big day with the last to scheduled to jump at 5:20pm

PAKENHAM BEST BET: Bavicia

Bavicia looks a very progressive three-year-old for the Tony & Calvin McEvoy yard. He comes here first-up after a very tough assignment running into Tijuana in the Listed Anzac Day Stakes at Flemington back in April. He was very brave that day sticking on gamely to only be beaten 4.1 lengths and tuned out to be too classy an affair for his first ever run, however it did tell us the camp have a very high opinion of this colt by Almanzor. He comes here fresh and with two very comfortable jump outs to his name, he finds this race a whole lot easier than his initial run. He only needs to replicate something similar to kick away from his mostly unraced and untested rivals. Expect John Allen to be very positive from barrier five and take up the running with Bavicia, from there it’ll be catch me if you can, but he looks too strong.

NEXT BEST AT PAKENHAM: Draft Day

Leon & Troy Corstens train this four-year-old by Tivaci and this looks great placement from the team for Draft Day. He was beaten by The Big Heist on the Pakenham Synthetic on September 22 and comes here on the short back up after being taken down by 2.45-lengths, but that was 1400m. This is a great set up to bring this gelding back down to the 1200m where he saw success at BM58 level. His turn of foot that day on August 22 was electric and over the sprint distances is where we’ll see the best of this galloper. He’s going to need a bit of luck from the gate, but with his sharp turn of foot he’ll only need to be getting clear late in the piece to be storming over the top of his rivals in this contest. Hopefully John Allen can have a big day as he’s booked to ride the best bet as well.

PAKENHAM BEST VALUE: Ruby Mockingbird

We have to wait until the last race of the day for the Value runner from the Lloyd Kennewell team, but it should be worth it. Ruby Mockingbird comes here after a six-week let-up when sticking on well at Murray Bridge last time out. This mare has a stack of talent but is in desperate need of drier tracks and she gets that on Monday afternoon. She drops back significantly in grade to BM58 level when she’s been reaching BM70 races against quality horses like Minouche and Throntari at Caulfield on February 5. Expect Jamie Mott to get back on this mare and be steaming down the outside of the track late in the day, and we think she’s a great each way play with online bookmakers to finish the afternoon.
