First Race 3pm AEDT

HorseBetting’s Victorian racing analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for this Thursday’s meeting at Pakenham Racecourse. The track is rated a Soft 6 and the rail will be out 6m for the entire course. The first of eight races is set to jump at 3pm AEDT, while the final race of the evening will go around at 6:30pm.

Pakenham Best Bet – Alburq

Michael Moroney and Josh Richards combine in the last race of the afternoon with the consistent Alburq, and while he has not won since December 2019, the son of Rubick has never contested a race lower than metropolitan level, so he should appreciate this country meeting. The five-year-old has only won once, but he has placed on 13 occasions, proving he is never too far away. Last preparation, Alburq raced eight times for two runner-up efforts, three thirds and three fourths with form around Zoushack, Lil Kontra and Pintoff. The 1200m trip first-up should suit, while Richards’ 1.5kg claim gets this gelding in very well at the weights. He is each-way odds, but we are happy to take the gamble on him.

Best betRace 8 – Alburq (#2) $6.50 with Sportsbet

Next Best Bet – Lyrical Lad

Local galloper Lyrical Lad was impressive in winning two races earlier on this campaign at Kilmore and Cranbourne respectively. The four-year-old has since not been beaten too far in some decent form races, including a last-start fifth to Bermadez at Sale. That horse went on to win the Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Final at Flemington on Thursday, so the form ties in well for this Benchmark 64. Drawn in barrier three, Jamie Mott is likely to look for the box seat and be stalking the speed, which will make this son of Roman Emperor very hard to beat in the straight.

Next BestRace 7 – Lyrical Lad (#3) $3.30 with Sportsbet

Best Value at Pakenham – Arohaboy

Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young combine with Craig Newitt in the fourth with three-year-old gelding Arohaboy. The son of Turn Me Loose has had three career starts for two sevenths and a fourth, but some of the form out of those maiden races has stacked up. In his second career start, Arohaboy finished less than five lengths behind Jungle Magnate at Sandown; that galloper has since placed at both Listed and Group 2 level, before running 10th in the Victoria Derby. Newitt will do the riding from barrier nine on Thursday and is likely to roll forward over the 1400m journey. He is first-up, so he could take some running down with fresh legs.

Best ValueRace 4 – Arohaboy (#2) $12 with Sportsbet
