When | Tuesday, January 17, 2023 |
First Race | 1:50pm AEDT |
Racing heads to Newcastle Racecourse on Tuesday afternoon for a competitive seven-race program set down for decision. We’ve got a strong list of 95 acceptances for the meeting with some nice maiden gallopers set to make their debut. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit and we should be looking at perfect conditions on Tuesday with no rain predicted for the coming days, so expect a good to firm surface.
The first race is scheduled to get underway at 1:50pm AEDT.
Newcastle Best Bet: Infinitive
Our best bet of the day comes in the first leg of the quaddie in maiden company, as we have found Infinitive third-up for the Chris Waller yard. She draws a nice gate this time after being forced back in the field at Canterbury on January 1 before making strong inroads late against what looks a nice type in Rocketeer Girl. The form has already been franked as well, with second placegetter – Moonlight Grace – breaking her maiden status at the midweek Warwick Farm meeting on January 11. Infinitive was just as strong to the line and should improve in similar fashion here with a speed map to suit. Lee Magorrian takes the reins from the soft draw and should be a lot closer than she was at Canterbury and provided she can slot in somewhere toward the one-by-one, this Hellbent filly should go very close to getting her first career victory.
Best Bet
Race 4 – #4 Infinitive (3)
3yo Filly | T: Chris Waller | J: Lee Magorrian (59kg)
Next Best at Newcastle: Border Control
Border Control will be looking to make it two starts for two wins since arriving in Australia from Hong Kong, and we think the Adam Duggan stable have found a nice race to do just that. This lightly raced five-year-old broke his maiden in style at Gosford on December 28 when sitting in behind a hot tempo, before leaving his rivals chasing when kicking clear turning for home. The Brazen Beau gelding should see something very similar here at Newcastle with an even bigger straight to wind up and chase the tiring leaders. There’s plenty of speed to burn on paper here and Border Control should get a perfect set up to be swooping over the top again, this time at BM64 company.
Next Best
Race 2 – #6 Border Control (4)
5yo Gelding | T: Adam Duggan | J: Rachel King (58.5kg)
Newcastle Value Bet: Graceful Force
Graceful Force represents terrific value in the third race of the program. She’s first-up for the Peter & Paul Snowden yard after a 181-day spell and a debut that was nothing to ride home about. However, we’re happy to forgive that effort on a very heavy track. Her barrier trial on December 13 at Randwick was eye-catching and it appears this filly out of Not A Single Doubt is crying out for a good surface, which is exactly what’s on offer come Tuesday afternoon. She’s clearly a work in progress, but she’s worth the risk against a short-priced favourite in Shalatin that’s had more than enough opportunities to break his maiden status. James McDonald rode Graceful Force in the jump out which is another confidence booster that this three-year-old has some quality about her. Chad Schofield takes the reins here and should get the box seat throughout and give Graceful Force every possible chance.
Best Value
Race 3 – #14 Graceful Force (3)
3yo Filly | T: Peter & Paul Snowden | J: Chad Schofield (55.5kg)
