Race 1 – Christchurch Casino Premier (2000m)

Call Me Royal is a six-year-old which didn’t fire in the Coupland’s Bakeries Mile Trial, but this is much easier. The son of Civics was in much better form prior to that run at Riccarton, which included a win at Te Rapa and a placing at Timaru. This isn’t the strongest premier field it will ever face and he could be paying nice each way odds.

Eva Jensine was making good ground late last Saturday and that form should hold nicely for this. The five-year-old mare wasn’t too far away in the Jakkalberry Classic at Rotorua prior to that run and that’s some of the best open class form in New Zealand. She will likely be well-favoured with bookmakers.

Race 1 tip: Eva Jensine to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 2 – NZ Bloodstock Insurance Premier (1600m)

Shadow King has run three consecutive third placings, but it’s good enough to take this out. The Kevin Myers-trained four-year-old had won three of its four starts prior to those placings and they came against some talented opposition. He finished under a half-length from the winner last start and Myers always has good success at this carnival so look for a strong betting push.

Terri Rae is another trainer that is accustomed to success down south and five-year-old gelding Shoot to Kill looks a nice chance. The son of Per Incanto might have run eighth last start at Ashburton, but it had blinkers, lugging bit and a tongue tie on, which didn’t help. The troublesome runner has talent at best and he saves his best performances for this track. Looks a nice chance at each way odds.

Race 2 tip: Shadow King to win at Neds.com.au

Race 3 – Muritai Group Premier (1400m)

Leuluai has drawn deep in barrier 16, but many of the well-favoured runners have. The son of Sepoy has placed in two of its five starts to date and it fought gamely to the line Ashburton last start. There isn’t much depth to this race and the four-year-old could take advantage of that here.

Dezzies Delight will attract attention from punters and it could turn consistency into winning form. The Sabin Kirkland-trained mare has placed in five of its 10 starts and it typically performs well at Riccarton. It has started as the favourite at its last three starts and expect similar here with Opie Bosson in the saddle.

Race 3 tip: Dezzies Delight to win at Luxbet.com

Race 4 – Andie McNeill Birthday Premier (1100m)

Bisou Bisou has won two from three when second up and it was hitting the line well last time out at New Plymouth. The daughter of Shaft was making good ground behind La Bella Rosa and despite dropping back in distance, that shouldn’t be too much of a worry here.

Mr Conductor has won four from 18 and it’s unbeaten in two starts at this distance. The Danny Crozier-trained gelding has also won and placed on this track and the booking of Matt Cameron in the saddle is a big bonus. The money should come for Mr Conductor.

Race 4 tip: Mr Conductor to win at Neds.com.au

Race 5 – Pegasus Stakes (1000m)

Former Australian sprinter Kinagat looks a nice chance here. The six-year-old by Street Cry had no luck when resuming last start at Ashburton and its form prior should be respected. This is its favourite track with two wins and two placings, so consider in win bets.

Signify is a professional nine-time winner which has a group one win to its name. The six-year-old gelding only battled last start, but it usually needs a couple of runs to show his best form. He’s a lethal sprinter on his day and the big weight shouldn’t worry it too much.

Race 5 tip: Kinagat to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 6 – MSocial Auckland Premier (1400m)

Glory Days has hit form at the right time after two wins from three starts this spring. The mare by Red Giant came with a good winning burst last start and it looks good enough to take on this company. It defeated a handy field at Hastings three starts back and that form looks good for this.

Pinsraad won its only start at Riccarton which reads well and she has since won a nice form race at Trentham since. The daughter of Pins only battled behind Ferrando last start, but they went at a hot tempo over the 1200m and the rise in distance looks perfect.

Race 6 tip: Pinsraad to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 7 – NZ 2000 Guineas (1600m)

Te Akau Shark looks like the next big thing for Te Akau Stud. The three-year-old by Rip van Winkle is unbeaten from two starts, which included a dominant 2.5-length romp at Matamata last start. He looks to have above average ability and despite Opie Bosson choosing to ride stablemate Embellish, take nothing away from the chances of Te Akau Shark.

Embellish also hails from the Autridge/Richards stables and its last two wins have been impressive. The first came over race rival Ever Loyal and its win last start came over an equally impressive field at Trentham. Opie Bosson choosing this three-year-old over Te Akau Shark is a big indication of what the stable thinks.

Race 7 tip: Te Akau Shark to win at Neds.com.au

Race 8 – Gold Club Premier (1200m)

Masabio hasn’t raced since April, but it has won twice when fresh up. The Ryan Simpson-trained seven-year-old ran some solid races last preparation which included a fourth at Ellerslie. This is a big field, but there’s no many smart types engaged and it could take advantage.

Gloss ran at odds of $46 when finishing second last start, but expect shorter odds this time around. The Pitman-trained four-year-old turned around some fairly average form and it should get every chance to run in the placings again.

Race 8 tip: Masabio to place at Unibet.com.au

Race 9 – Redwood Metropolitan Trophy (2500m)

Grazia returned to form with an outstanding 3.5-length win at Riccarton last start. The daughter of Savabeel had been running against tough opposition prior and despite stepping up in grade, it was able to score an easy win. A good track is ideal, but it can handle all surfaces.

Sacred Empire was an effortless winner on this track last start. The Tony Pike-trained runner had been taking on the likes of Mongolian Legend and Highlad up north and the trip down south paid dividends. He looks to have a bright future in this grade.

Race 9 tip: Grazia to win at Neds.com.au

Race 10 – Blue Star Taxis Premier (1600m)

Director doesn’t always get the best of luck and drawing barrier 22 for this adds to that notion. After scoring well three runs back, Director has run into trouble in both starts since where it finished second and this will require a patient ride from Chris Johnson. Chance with plenty of luck.

Ruby Row has won two starts at Riccarton and it hasn’t been far away recently. Its run for sixth fresh up last start was solid enough to recommend and Opie Bosson takes the ride. That’s a positive and each way odds will be available.

Race 10 tip: Director to place at CrownBet.com.au
