Nine races are scheduled to be run and won at Morphettville on Saturday afternoon for Clare Lindop Stakes day. The track has avoided the rain that the entire east coast has copped and is a Good 4 for racing on Saturday. With the rail out 4m we are set for a cracking day as racing in Adelaide heats up for another year as we build up to the Adelaide Carnival which is just over a month away. Race 5 – Best Bet: Farooq
The Sue Murphy-trained Farooq was an impressive winner in the Edenhope Cup last start on March 6. With the handicapper assigning the son of Frankel 63kg for this run, it is no surprise to see that Murphy has given young apprentice Jacob Opperman the ride with his 3kg expected to be beneficial. From barrier nine we expect Farooq to find cover in the running around midfield, and he has shown in the past that he is capable of lugging the big weight and with a genuine tempo expected out in front then he should be able to grind away over the 2019m and secure a third win in five starts.

Next Best: Lunar Hero
The way the Daniel McCarthy-trained Lunar Hero broke his maiden prior to his 12 weeks spell suggests he is a runner to watch throughout the winter months. He smashed his rivals by five lengths at Echuca on New Years Eve when leading throughout, and having drawn barrier eight here he should be able to get to the with a bit of ease and give this lot something to chase. The Reward For Effort gelding gets in well at the weights just half a kilo off the minimum and 5.5kg off the top weight. The weight differential between Lunar Hero and some of his main market rivals could prove the difference over the final 200m.

Best Value: Bellinger
The Dabernig & Hayes-trained Bellinger clearly did not handle the Soft going at Moonee Valley in the All Star Mile when finishing four lengths behind the eventual winner. His win at Sandown on the Lakeside track two runs back was full of arrogance when saluting under a stranglehold from Damian Lane when rounding the field up with ease. It is expected to be a genuinely run mile on Saturday which will suit Bellinger’s racing pattern and if anyone is to let down with a slick turn of foot to round the leaders up it is Bellinger, at an each way quote.
