Moonee Valley Betting Preview – February 19, 2021
Friday night’s eight-race card at Moonee Valley raises the curtain on a big weekend of Group 1 racing in Melbourne. The Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes is the featured event on the night, with a big field of three-year-old fillies set to compete for the $160,000 on offer. The track has come up a Good 4 and the rail is out 3m for the entire circuit, so we look set for a cracking night of racing at The Valley. The first on Friday is set to jump at 6:30pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Mahashakti
We were with the Mitch Freedman-trained Mahashakti when she brought up a hat-trick of wins over this track and distance on February 5. She does go up 2.5kg for this effort, but she looks hard to beat with Damien Oliver hopping on board for the first time. From barrier two in the small field, she can settle towards the rear without being too far from the pace. The last-start win saw her respond well to a challenge when sustaining a big run from a long way out, suggesting she is a smart mare coming up through the ranks.

Next Best: Oxley Road
Peter Moody looks to have himself a classy colt in his ranks following Oxley Road’s impressive win on debut at Flemington on January 29. Craig Williams was cuddling him up until the 150m mark in the lead, and he put his rivals away with a fair bit left in the tank. He stays at 1000m for the assignment at The Valley and gets Damien Oliver to replace the suspended Williams, which is certainly a massive indicator. From barrier seven, expect him to sit outside the leader until the home turn and then kick clear over the last 200m to remain undefeated.

Best Value: Wil John
Wil John is an out-and-out stayer. The 3000m might even be a touch sharp for him, but he does not know how to run a poor race. During his spring campaign he had eight runs and finished no worse than third, picking up two wins along the way. He does not necessarily possess a turn of foot to be feared, but he maps to take a sit off the leader’s heels and his high cruising tempo should be enough to get the job done first up.
