2021 Typhoon Tracy Stakes betting preview

The Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes is the featured event on Moonee Valley’s eight-race card on Friday night. The $160,000 race for three-year-old fillies over 1200m has drawn a capacity field of 14, so we look set for a cracking renewal. The 2021 Typhoon Tracy Stakes is set to jump at 9:30pm AEDT.

There looks to be plenty of early speed in the Typhoon Tracy Stakes this year, as you would expect with a Group 3 sprint. Night Raid (#4), Entrapped (#9) and Diamonds Inthe Sky (#6) will all be fighting it out for the lead role, while the likes of Smokin’ Val (#14) and Highly Discreet (#10) will look to settle towards the rear of the field.

Rainbiel (#11) at odds of $5 is coming off an extremely unlucky runner-up performance at Caulfield on January 26. She was travelling like the winner on the turn but found zero daylight until the 100m mark, and by then the race was already won by Diamonds Inthe Sky. The Anthony Chibnall filly showed an elite turn of foot once she saw daylight, and her good career record suggests she should be hard to beat in the Typhoon Tracy Stakes. The slight query is where she ends up in the running, having drawn barrier 13 under Dean Holland. The pair will need a little bit of luck early on to make sure they do not get caught wide off the track.

Hardest to beat looks to be Night Raid, who will be in the limelight up on speed, odds of $5 are available for the Mick Price filly to bring up another black-type victory. Having won the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes over this track and distance back in the spring, she should be well acclimated to the tricks The Valley can throw up. Having had two quiet trials in the lead up, you would expect a bold showing first up, and the Instant Celebrity form looks more than good enough here.

If you are looking for one at odds, Highly Discreet at $9 looks a nice play with a hot tempo expected up in front. The Valley has not necessarily been a favourite track for the Phillip Stokes filly, but if it is a night for backmarkers to charge home, then the turn of foot she possesses looks to be the best in the field when a race is run in quick time.
