Okita Soushi lined up in the 2023 Melbourne Cup under the care of Joseph O’Brien, but has since be moved to the Ciaron Maher stable.

Okita Soushi comes to the 2024 Melbourne Cup on the back of a determined victory in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup (2500m).

Can Okita Soushi land Ciaron Maher his first Melbourne Cup win as a solo trainer?

When will Okita Soushi run in the Melbourne Cup?

The Melbourne Cup will be run on the first Tuesday in November at Flemington in front of a sold out crowd.

The one thing that hasn’t changed about the 2023 Melbourne Cup is the horses.

Once again The Cup has brought together an elite field of Melbourne Cup horses to contest the two mile race for $8.56 million.

Can Okita Soushi win the 2024 Melbourne Cup?

Last-start Moonee Valley Gold Cup winner Okita Soushi beat a handful of his rivals when they last clashed and has to be respected on that fact alone. However, a deeper dive will see he gained every favour in running that night and was aided by a gun ride from Billy Egan. He will likely roll forward under Jamie Kah and will look to settle alongside Just Fine on just off him. The 3200m might see him out if forced to do all the chasing, but a top-four finish wouldn’t shock entirely.
