Laws Of Indices will resume in Saturday’s Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) at Randwick, with trainer Annabel Neasham opting to run him over six furlongs first-up.

The four-year-old entire joined Neasham’s stables last October and ran fifth in his only Australian run, when less than two lengths behind I’m Thunderstruck in the Golden Eagle.

The son of Power recently took place in a barrier trial at Rosehill Gardens over 900m, which has Neasham believing that he may need the run first-up on Saturday.

Laws Of Indices was nominated to resume in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes over 1400m, but he will instead line up in the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes, where he will be partnered by James McDonald from the outside barrier (12).

“He’s a good chance,” Neasham told Sky Racing.

“He ran very well in the Golden Eagle – I’m sure there will be some other nice horses resuming that might be a little bit sharper than him.

“He’s a Group 2 winner over that distance (1200m) and he’s coming up pretty quickly, so I think he’s going to run well.”

Laws Of Indices will be one of just three Neasham-trained gallopers stepping out on Saturday, as two-year-olds Flashing Steel and Mumbai Jewel both step out in their third career starts in the Pierro Plate (1100m).

Neasham won’t be in for a quiet Autumn Carnival however, as star gallopers Zaaki and Mo’unga near their returns.

“They all (Laws Of Indices, Zaaki, Mo’unga and Top Ranked) worked out at Canterbury this week a couple of times and worked really well,” she said.

“Zaaki will most likely kick off in the Canterbury Stakes – I’m having to simmer him along a bit because he’s ready to go already. He’s come to hand so quickly.

“Mo’unga might kick off in the same race, with a view of going to the George Ryder, and we’ll have Top Ranked probably kicking off in the Chipping Norton.”

Laws Of Indices is currently an $8 chance in the Southern Cross Stakes, where John O’Shea’s pair – Quantico ($3.90) and Lost And Running ($4.80) – dominate the market.
