2020 Kilmore Cup betting preview

The Listed Kilmore Cup is the featured event on Sunday for the eight-race card in country Victoria. The $150,000 race over a mile has drawn a capacity field, and it looks to be one of the more competitive Kilmore Cup instalments for quite some time.

Despite being accepted for the Ballarat Cup on Saturday, connections look set to run Power Scheme in the Kilmore Cup on Sunday. He is on the quick backup after running in the Eclipse Stakes last weekend at Sandown, where he had the lead before and after the winning post but was pipped on the line by stablemate So Si Bon. He is clearly one of the classier gallopers in this field and has been racing in consistent form throughout the spring. With Jamie Mott on board, it is hard to go past him before he jets off to Hong Kong.

Pancho will be looking to improve on his midfield finish in a BM90 on Oaks Day at Flemington. He’s a galloper who is always there or thereabouts in the running but seems to have trouble finding the winning post, as he hasn’t tasted victory in over a year. He gets Craig Williams aboard for the third time in his career and maps to be in a more positive position in the running after drawing barrier two. If he can find a spot just off the fence, there’s no reason why he can’t be fighting out the finish.

The reliable combination of Matt Cumani and Fred Kersley team up in the Kilmore Cup with Delectation Girl, who finished two lengths off the winner in the HKJ Club Stakes on Melbourne Cup Day when first up. She steps up to a more comfortable distance at the mile, where she has won twice. The slight query is where she ends up in the running after drawing towards the outside, as she’ll need a genuine tempo if she settles towards the back of the field.
