What Randwick-Kensington Races
Where Royal Randwick Racecourse – Alison Rd, Randwick NSW 2031
When Wednesday, March 22, 2023
First Race 1:45pm AEDT

We’re racing on the Kensington circuit at Royal Randwick on Wednesday afternoon, with a competitive eight-race program kicking off at 1:45pm. We should have great conditions for racing, with a Good 4 surface expected and only light showers forecast for the late afternoon. The rail now sits out +4m the entire circuit for what looks a very tricky card to dissect.

Best Bet at Randwick-Kensington: Jupitus

Our best bet of the afternoon comes in the second leg of the quaddie at Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday afternoon, with Jupitus looking for his second win of the preparation. His first-up win was an eye-catching display when powering over the top of his rivals to score on February 15 over the 1400m. It came at BM72 level and drawing the widest barrier, but it didn’t seem to bother this son of Sebring, who was set the tough task of rounding them all up turning for home. He did exactly that before stepping up to this course and distance last time out, getting caught way too far back to make any kind of impact on the winner, Journalism, on March 8. This time Tim Clark takes the reins from an inside draw, which should allow this Chris Waller-trained gelding to sit a lot closer in a possible one-one position. If he finds any luck this time, he can chalk up career win number four.

Next Best at Randwick-Kensington: Headwall

It’s too hard to go past Headwall in the fourth race of the program on Wednesday as he looks to make it four wins in five starts. His record speaks for itself, only missing the winner’s enclosure due to bad luck and a muddling tempo first-up on February 15 at this track and trip. He then went to Warwick Farm on March 1 and destroyed his opposition in BM72 company, going on to score by a comfortable 1.7 length margin. There’s still so much upside in this son of Dream Ahead and we’re aren’t sure what his ceiling is as a potential sprinter moving forward, one thing is for sure though, we think he’s better than BM78 grade. Blake Spriggs might need to ride Headwall more positively in this smaller field and he might not get things his own way, but his class should come to the fore at the end of this third-up assignment.

Next Best Again at Randwick-Kensington: Biscayne Bay

Biscayne Bay was impressive on return from a 38-week spell at Warwick Farm on March 1 and we wanted to be with her wherever she went. It just so happens to be in this BM78 affair on Wednesday afternoon and looks a manageable second-up assignment for this daughter of Sebring. After resuming over the 1400m, Biscayne Bay was brave holding second behind Travest when fitness gave way with 100m to go. She held her own and was always going to need the run, but now stepping up to the 1800m second-up shows great intent from the stable. She was accepted to run in the Epona Stakes last Saturday at Rosehill, giving a strong indication that Ciaron Maher & David Eustace still have a strong opinion of their lightly-raced four-year-old mare. James McDonald hops aboard and may have no choice but to take his medicine from the wide draw and get back; however, we think her class can overcome the barrier and score at a nice price for online bookmakers.
