Having taken out the ATC Australian Derby during The Championships, Explosive Jack has given himself the chance of back-to-back Group 1 wins when he lines up in the South Australian Derby this Saturday at Morphettville.

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace runner has been all over the countryside this campaign, with runs in Bendigo, Hobart, Moonee Valley, Kembla Grange, Goulburn and Swan Hill prior to his win at Randwick last month.

Having won the Tasmanian Derby and the Australian Derby in the past four months, the 2500m trip will not be an issue for the $4.80 second-elect for this weekend’s SA Derby.

The son of Jakkalberry had an impressive jumpout at Sandown last Saturday and is primed to add another Group 1 title to his resume.

“He will be the horse to beat, I would imagine,” Eustace said.

Explosive Jack’s co-trainer also made it clear that his stable would have two runners in the Morphettville feature on Saturday, with Let’s Karaka Deel set to go around as an $11 chance despite skipping the traditional lead-up race, the Chairman’s Stakes, a fortnight ago.

Those two horses will come up against the Cindy Alderson-trained Liqueuro, who is set to go around as favourite in the 2021 SA Derby. With four wins from five career starts, the son of Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente looks to be the runner with the most upside in the race, but Explosive Jack will be out spoil the party for favourite punters once again.
