HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for Wednesday’s nine-race metropolitan meeting at Ipswich. The track is rated a Soft 5, the rail is out 5m for the entire course, and the first race of the day is due to jump at 1:03pm AEST.

Ipswich Best Bet – Russian Warrior

In the first race of the day, Allan Chau will saddle up his promising two-year-old Russian Warrior. The filly was the fifth emergency in Saturday’s Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic, but unfortunately for her connections, she didn’t gain a start, so she will instead race in this $35,000 2YO Handicap instead. The daughter of Russian Revolution was an impressive winner at her second start on December 18 on the Gold Coast, albeit by a narrow margin, before running a good fifth at Doomben on New Year’s Day, closing off nicely behind Golden Artie and Soaring Ambition. She stays at 1200m on Wednesday, but she does find a much easier and much smaller field, facing just the five rivals. Having drawn barrier three under Ron Stewart, Russian Warrior should be able to box seat in the run, before pulling away in the straight.

Next Best at Ipswich – Kipsbay

Chris Waller and James Orman combine in the halfway point of the afternoon with Kipsbay. This three-year-old gelding has only had three starts, with his best result seeing him run second at Canterbury in his most recent start on December 17, where he beat home two subsequent winners – Trifaccia and Miss Glenn. The son of Capitalist has trialled well since at Rosehill, winning over 900m under James McDonald by half a length in what was a relatively quick trial. Like Russian Warrior, Kipsbay missed out on a start at the Gold Coast on Saturday, after he was the third emergency in the Magic Millions Maiden. By all reports, Kipsbay worked alongside Starman and Wheelhouse during the week, so that looks good enough to be competitive in a maiden at Ipswich. The wide barrier is far from ideal, but he has one of Queensland’s leading riders in the saddle, so we are backing him to overcome the outside alley and prove too good for these.

Best Value at Ipswich – Real Empress

The opening leg of the quaddie sees a pretty competitive field of 11 tackle the Benchmark 0-65 Handicap over 1200m. We are siding with Desleigh Forster’s four-year-old Real Empress, who resumes on Wednesday. The mare by Real Saga has won one of her 11 starts, while she has also placed third on three occasions. In her four-start preparation during the winter, Real Empress finished third when first-up, before running fourth to a subsequent Listed winner in Starosa at Doomben. She went on to drop off a little bit, with her last run for the campaign coming six lengths off Eloquently over 1300m at Eagle Farm, but even that form isn’t too bad. Forster gave the mare a trial at Deagon on December 30, where she was only two lengths behind The Move, Fasano and The Candy Man in a bunched finish. With 54kg from barrier nine under Jim Byrne, she could very well be a touch too classy for these. Best of all, the top betting sites are paying double figures for the win.
