Metropolitan racing heads to Ipswich on Wednesday afternoon for what looks to be a decent seven-part meeting. The track is rated a Soft 5, and the rail is out 10m from the 1350m to the winning post and 8m for the remainder of the course.
Best Bet at Ipswich – Our Heart Throb
Our Heart Throb’s run at Eagle Farm on August 13 was better than what it reads on paper. The Tony Gollan-trained three-year-old by Spirit Of Boom is now having his fourth career start and looks ready to win after placing behind the likes of Capital Tower and Tyresa in his two-year-old season. With no disrespect to jockey Angela Jones – we rate her a lot – there has been a bit of a recipe for success with Gollan’s runners lately, and it seems to be when Jones is replaced by a senior rider – especially Ryan Maloney or Ben Thompson. The latter hops in the saddle here, they’ve drawn well in barrier five and they get out to 1200m in a weaker race, so we’re confident that Our Heart Throb should be going close.

Next Best at Ipswich – Laraina
Wendy Peel is absolutely airborne at the minute, with the 3kg-claiming apprentice booting home five winners from her last five rides. On Wednesday, she hops aboard the Lorraine Erhart-trained Laraina, who is resuming after a winter spell. The five-year-old mare went for a break after winning two consecutive races here at Ipswich and Eagle Farm, with Peel in the saddle both times. Her recent barrier trial was quite good, splitting Chief Artie and Knight Mariner over 1000m at Doomben, so with early speed to burn under 56kg, Laraina can really control the race and kick away on the bend.
