The Ipswich Turf Club will play host to eight races on Wednesday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Queensland racing analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie selections. The track is rated a Soft 5, and the rail is out 8m from the 1100m to the winning post and 6m for the remainder of the course. The meeting is scheduled to get underway at 12:33pm AEST.

Best Bet at Ipswich – Argyle Lane

Argyle Lane might build the cult following that his older half-brother Incentivise has if he continues on his winning ways. The Joshua King-trained five-year-old is unbeaten after two career starts on the Sunshine Coast, winning both races in fine style. The son of Golden Archer has an ideal racing pattern, going handy to the speed and then showing a good turn of foot when required – a bit like Incentivise. From barrier nine, Michael Murphy will roll forward in search of a prominent position before hopefully getting clear in the straight.

Next Best at Ipswich – Maple Door

He is starting to get a bit costly, but Maple Door finds a winnable race on Wednesday. The Kelly Schweida-trained four-year-old has finished third in all four starts this preparation, with all four runs coming at Doomben in metropolitan grade. Although this meeting is on a Wednesday, it is only provincial, so the horses he is up against are a touch below what he’s used to. The son of Sebring hasn’t drawn a good gate this campaign, so connections would be pleased to see him jump from barrier five, with the state’s top jockey, James Orman, in the saddle once again. He can race a bit handier on Wednesday and give this race a real shake over 1700m.

Next Best

Best Value at Ipswich – Super Art

After winning her maiden at the end of her autumn campaign, it is fair to say that Super Art hasn’t gone on with the job. The Ben Ahrens-trained four-year-old had two plain trials at Toowoomba and Deagon before running well below her best at Gatton first-up and then failing to beat a runner home at this track over 1200m on August 5. While none of that really screams ‘back me’, there was more merit in her last-start last than what meets the eye. Her only win came over 1000m, so we aren’t convinced that she gets much more than that, while her recent run was in a competitive Fillies & Mares Benchmark 62. She drops 0.5kg and comes back in grade and distance, while she has also drawn to do no work from barrier three under Samantha Collett, who rides Ipswich better than most jockeys. Expect a big price, but we could get a run for our money.

Best Value

Race 4 – Silk #7 Super Art (3)
