The 2021 Caulfield Cup winner Incentivise has been retired.

Connections have confirmed on Saturday morning that their three-time Group 1 winner will not race again after suffering another injury setback.

Incentivise, a seven-year-old, ended his last campaign in the 2021 Melbourne Cup where he sustained an injury when finishing second behind Verry Ellegant, and hasn’t returned to the racetrack since.

The ownership group released a statement on Saturday morning confirming the retirement.

“The horse had been progressing terrifically well towards a much-anticipated return to racing, but suffered another setback, that while not career-ending in its own right, was enough for us to call it a day,” the statement read.

“Importantly, Incentivise is not in pain and is roaming freely in a paddock at (trainer) Peter Moody’s place.”

Incentivise will end his career after racing 13 times for nine wins and just under $6 million in prize money earnings, with his 2021 Victorian spring campaign leaving his followers with some great memories of the ex-Queenslander.

During the 2021 spring campaign, the terrific stayer managed to claim the Makybe Diva Stakes, Turnbull Stakes and Caulfield Cup in consecutive races before running into Verry Ellegant in the Melbourne Cup.
