Where Hawkesbury Race Club – Racecourse Rd, Clarendon NSW 2756
When Thursday, September 23, 2021
First Race 1:10pm AEST

Hawkesbury plays host to eight provincial races on Thursday afternoon, with the first race set to jump at 1:10pm AEST. HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst has previewed the program and brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is in the true position for the entire course.

Hawkesbury Best Bet: Vittoriosa

Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott’s mare was ridden upside down last start, which was the difference between her winning and losing, in our opinion. The four-year-old by Vancouver led in her first three starts, which saw her win by nearly three lengths on debut, gunned down late at start two and then run a modest eighth at Group 3 level in the Kembla Grange Classic in March. She started as an even-money favourite in her first run this campaign, but after settling midfield, she had too much work to do and ran second, beaten three-quarters of a length. Stepping from 1200m to 1500m with extra fitness under her belt, we expect Tim Clark will take her to the front from barrier two and prove hard to catch.

Best BetRace 1 – Vittoriosa (#3) $2.20 with Sportsbet

Next Best at Hawkesbury: Freckle Rock

The Maher & Eustace stable have a handy galloper in Freckle Rock, who will be looking to make it three wins from four starts on Thursday. The son of Fastnet Rock won by three lengths on debut at Scone last November and then was not seen on a racetrack until August 13, when he ran second at Muswellbrook as an odds-on favourite. The four-year-old then lined up at Scone again on September 4 and justified his $1.22 quote to win by 1.25 lengths in Class 2 company, defeating Underboss over 1600m. Now stepping out to 1800m, Tim Clark will take the gelding to the front from barrier seven in a bid to replicate last start and lead all of the way. Freckle Rock will have to carry 60.5kg and face some of his toughest opposition to date in the form of Socrates, who brings form around Ita – a subsequent metropolitan winner – to this race, but we are confident that he can fend off the challenge.

Next BestRace 3 – Freckle Rock (#1) $2.05 with Sportsbet

Hawkesbury Value Bet: Shotgun Alli

Ron Quinton’s four-year-old mare Shotgun Alli trialled very well against the likes of Signore Fox and Sweet Deal in preparation for her first-up run in a winnable Fillies & Mares Benchmark 64 over 1100m. The daughter of Smart Missile has been lightly raced, having only six starts to date, but she has shown potential in winning back-to-back races across May and June. After winning her maiden at Gosford on May 27, Shotgun Alli then got home by half a length in Class 1 company at this track on June 13. She has since had two starts at metropolitan level, with a highlight being a third-placing at Canterbury in July prior to spelling. Her one trial saw her run fourth, only two lengths off Stradbroke Handicap placegetter Signore Fox, which is very good form for this.

Best ValueRace 7 – Shotgun Alli (#4) $8 with Sportsbet
