Hong Kong racing returns to Happy Valley Racecourse on Wednesday night for an eight-race program under lights. The rail moves out to the C+3 position, and with pristine conditions expected in the lead-up, we should be racing on a Good 4 surface. The opening event is scheduled for 7:10pm HKT (10:10pm AEDT).
Best Bet: Heroic Master
Heroic Master was convincingly beaten at this course and distance on November 1, but he should’ve finished much closer than 4.3 lengths away. The son of Not A Single Doubt was cast three wide without cover for the entire journey but stuck to the task behind a dominant Majestic Knight. The in-form Karis Teetan sticks aboard this five-year-old gelding, and with a nice weight swing on some key rivals, Heroic Master won’t be far away from career win number five.

Kyrus Unicorn is on the one-week backup and should appreciate the immediate step up in trip. The David Hall-trained gelding was terrific over an unsuitable 1650m journey last week, closing off strongly behind Samarkand in a stop-start affair. The eight-year-old gets out to 2200m for the first time, and with his win two starts back suggesting he’ll stay the journey, Kyrus Unicorn should hard to beat with Zac Purton in the saddle.

Howdeepisyourlove will make his return in Class 2 company and has been trialling exceptionally well heading into this first-up attempt. His latest jump-out came on the all-weather surface at Sha Tin on November 21, where the son of Deep Field travelled through the line under his own steam. His form at this track and trip reads well, with 10 starts resulting in four wins and four minor placings, and we see no reason why that can’t continue.
