Full form & tips for Werribee, Sunday, December 24

WHERE else would you rather be than at the race track on Christmas eve?

We head to the outer suburbs of Melbourne as Werribee hosts the last Victorian race meet before Santa visits households around the country and we’re looking forward to what the nine race card will bring on Sunday.

Let’s get stuck into the action.

Race 1 – Maiden Plate (1600m)

Em Cee Rocket looks ready to win after two race starts. Although it finished miles behind the winner last time out at Moe, it did figure in the money so that counts for something. In a weaker maiden to kick things off we think the horse is as good a chance as any.

Race 1 tip: Em Cee Rocket to win at Neds

Race 2 – Maiden Plate (1100m)

Tennessee Sky only narrowly missed out on breaking its maiden last time out and we think it’s well placed to go one better here. The three-year-old filly looks to be a promising type, so we are expecting a win here.

Race 2 tip: Tennessee Sky to win at Crownbet

Race 3 – Maiden Plate (1000m)

Hussini brings the best form into this one, and in a maiden event that’s all you can ask for. The horse draws well in the weights and from barrier five it will have no issues running its own race. Expect Hussini to break the maiden here.

Race 3 tip: Hussini to win at Neds

Race 4 – Maiden Plate (1400m)

Sister Maree draws poorly here but the last two starts have been terrific. In a weak maiden placing in consecutive runs is a huge plus. If it overcomes barrier 10 it will be taking out this race.

Race 4 tip: Sister Maree to win at William Hill

Race 5 – Benchmark 58 (1600m)

Last-start winner Bubba’s Call is travelling soundly and looks set to go back-to-back. The win at Tatura, which was at the same grade as it faces Sunday, was good, and despite the 2kg penalty we are still confident a win will be in store for the five-year-old.

Bubba’s Call is our best bet of the day at Werribee

Race 6 – Benchmark 64 (1400m)

Near Queue should be renamed Near Due after its last four runs, which has seen the horse place three times and finish fourth once. The horse returns to Werribee, where it has placed twice from two attempts, so a big run is anticipated.

Race 6 tip: Near Queue to win at CrownBet

Race 7 – Benchmark 70 (1600m)

In a race with no great form to read into, the last-start win of Mick’s Hustler stands out. The win on December 9 was the horse’s first attempt at the mile, which is the distance of this one. We’re backing it to win again in a higher grade of racing.

Mick’s Hustler is our next best bet of the day at Werribee

Race 7 tip: Mick’s Hustler to win at CrownBet

Race 8 – Benchmark 58 (2000m)

Break And Enter is ready to win after two back-to-back strong performances. The horse finished fourth two starts back, then improved over a length to round out the placings on December 9. If natural progression takes its course the horse is winning this race.

Race 8 tip: Break And Enter to win at Sportsbet

Race 9 – Benchmark 64 (1100m)

Expect Dragon Artist to spear across from the wide gate and give them something to catch. In a race without much early speed it should get there easily, and then it is just a matter of getting it done from the front. We think it is more than capable.

Race 9 tip: Dragon Artist to win at Ladbrokes
