Sandown Wednesday 20

LADBROKES Park, AKA Sandown, is the Melbourne racing venue for Wednesday and an intriguing day of thoroughbred action awaits.

Just two maiden events on the card will make it easier for punters to find a winner on what should be a great day of racing in the suburb of Springvale.

Race 1 – Maiden Plate (1400m)

Weir galloper Hermanito looks the best option in a wide-open affair. The horse is yet to miss a placing in two starts and looks to have a class advantage of a number of runners here.

Race 1 tip: Hermanito to win ($5.50 at Neds)

Race 2 – Maiden Plate (1300m)

Another Flag has recorded back-to-back second placings, missing out by less than a length on both occasions. A win looks just around the corner for the Smerdon three-year-old and Wednesday looms as D-Day.

Race 2 tip: Another Flag to win ($4.40 at Unibet)

Race 3 – Dream Thoroughbreds Handicap Class 1 (1300m)

Justsimmer is a dual-acceptor but we think its likely the mare takes its place in this race. After breaking the maiden in eye-catching fashion last week there’s no reason to think it will slow down now. Justsimmer draws perfectly and will be hard to beat.

Race 3 tip: Justsimmer to win ($6.50 at Sportsbet)

Race 4 – Benchmark 64 (1000m)

Holy Seal resumes after just shy of six months and it can make an instant impact. The Weir runner is a classy operator that has never missed a placing and only narrowly missed out from making it three-from-three before being turned out.

Race 4 tip: Holy Seal to win ($2.30 at William Hill)

Race 5 – Benchmark 64 (1100m)

Storm Harbour is a runner that could be chasing a fourth-straight win had it not been for a number of mitigating factors, including a track impacted by rain as well as a tendency to over-race in the middle stages. Prior to that failure the horse had recorded comfortable wins, so we are anticipating a bounce back.

Race 5 tip: Storm Harbour to win ($6 at Ladbrokes)

Corrs is looking to bounce back after a sixth-placed finish of Sandown three weeks ago. Prior to that the horse had been on a great run which had seen it finish inside the placings across four runs, including a strong win at Cranbourne. Look for a sharp improvement.

Race 6 tip: Corrs to win ($8.50 at Ladbrokes)

Race 7 – Benchmark 70 (1590m)

Alma’s Rossa is third-up and will be looking to win again at that point in the preparation. The horse has been making steady improvement since returning and looks ready to win. The last-start third was decent against a tearaway winner and we think it is more than capable of taking out this event.

Race 7 tip: Alma’s Rossa to win ($4.60 at Sportsbet)

Race 8 – Benchmark 70 (1300m)

Dusty Jack is a horse that has raced in much better company than this before and held its own so we are expecting a strong performance to round out the card. The horse returns to a track where it is unbeaten and at its best it just wins.

Dusty Jack is our next best bet of the day at Sandown

Race 8 tip: Dusty Jack to win ($6 at Neds)
