It is Black Caviar Lightning Stakes Day at Flemington on Saturday afternoon where a nine race card is set down for decision. Clear skies are forecast for Saturday and with the track coming up a Good 4 and the rail in the true position through we are set for a cracking day of racing at headquarters. The first on Saturday at Flemington is set to jump at 12:20pm AEDT.
Race 1- Furphy Ale Trophy
The opening event is no easy feat to find the winner in especially considering none of these runners have ever won at Flemington. Have settled on Brazen Song (#5) in the opener, coming off a close up third placed finish at Caulfield on January 30.He was beaten home by Silent Sovereign (#1) who runs into here again but gets a 1.5kg weight advantage off the Tony McEvoy trained mare. Brazen Song looks to get a quiet time of it up in front with her main rivals looking to do their best work late. She led for a majority of the race at Caulfield besides when it mattered most, and with her rock hard fitness she will hard to chase down at a price of $9.50 in the opener.

Race 2- Talindert Stakes

The Listed Talindert Stakes for the two-year-olds sees the last start runner up to Enthaar in Ingratiating (#1) go around as faovurite. It is hard to go past that Enthaar form and considering the Godolphin colt has won down the Flemington straight before and has a runner up performance here too behind Finance Tycoon he looks hard to go past. Not to be ruled out is the duo of Gulf Of Suez (#2) and Frost Flowers (#9) who both tasted defeat for the first time in their short careers last time out. Another one to keep an eye is Saasmit (#10) who is set to go around at big each way odds yet finished just over a length to Frost Flowers in the Blue Diamond Preview.

Race 3- Seppelt Wines Plate
Our best bet of the day comes up in Race 3 when Regardsmaree (#9) comes to Flemington on the short seven day back up after an impressive win at Caulfield last Saturday. The gelding looks well placed to bring up his fourth win in five starts this campaign when he steps out at Flemington for the first time since the autumn last year. The win at Caulfield was set up perfectly within the first 100m when Luke Currie settled her midfield in clear galloping room, and when Currie hit the button he let down with a slick turn of foot to put away his rivals quickly. The main danger is clearly Buffalo River (#2) who competed in much harder races than this during the spring, and class can take you a long way in this caper.

Race 4- World Horse Racing Trophy
With a bit of luck our bak will be built nicely after Regardsmaree gets the job done in the race prior, so we can launch into Coolth (#8) here in Race 4 on Saturday. He took a bit to get going in the concluding stages of his win over this track and distance on January 16 but looked to have done it with a bit left in hand despite the narrow winning margin. During the winter he was chasing home the likes of Persan and if Persan was in this race he certainly would be an odds-on favourite. With the likes of War Critic (#10) and (#4) Takumi in fine form Coolth will need to be at his best here on Saturday, but his best gets the job done here with a bit left in hand.

Race 5- The Tab Vanity
The Vanity looks to be a good little contest this year. With only nine runners going around, at least half of them can present a case as to how they can win this Group 3 over 1400m. Have settled on Zou Dancer (#4) here from the Leon & Troy Corstens yard having won two of three runs this campaign. Her last start win over the Flemington 1400m was full of merit when cruising up to the leader at the 300m mark and quickly put a couple of lengths on the field that they were unable to pull back. The winner of last year’s VRC Oaks in Personal (#1) is the clear class in the race and absolutely loves the Flemington track. Whilst Vespertine #3) and Salton Angel (#5) command respect.

Race 6- Kennedy Trophy
The opening of the Flemington quaddie looks to be an incredibly tricky one, in fact it sets the tone for the entire quaddie. Milton Park (#10) was an all the way winner at Sandown on January 23 and we are hoping he can do something similar here against the older horses over the Flemington mile. His win here two starts back over 1400m was full of merit when beating home Zac De Boss and if he can run up to his last two runs he will be fighting out the finish that is for sure. He will have dangers coming from all over the place over the last 100m with Skyman (#6), High ‘N’ Dry (#9) Dadoozedart (#2) all expected to feature in the finish.

Race 7- CS Hayes Stakes
How do you split a majority of the runners in the CS Hayes Stakes? Well we are going to try our best. It is one of the best CS Hayes Stakes we have seen in some time with the last start Magic Millions Guineas winner Aim (#4) the one we have settled on. It takes a special kind of three-year-old to make Away Game look silly but he left the star in her dust when producing a barnstorming turn of foot in the featured event. He will need a genuine tempo throughout for him to play a pivotal role in the end and he maps to get it with plenty of early pace engaged. He will need to go toe to toe with the likes of Mo-unga (#5) and Brando (#6) who look clear dangers at a nice each way price. Whilst the roughie of the field Grandslam (#11) certainly deserves to be shorter than the $34 quote on offer.

Race 8- Black Caviar Lightning Stakes
It is the feature event of the day, the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes. It looks to be a genuine speed battle up in front with Nature Strip (#1), Pippie (#5) and Fabergino (#6) set to provide a cracking tempo. It sets it up perfectly for our top selection Bivouac (#2) who is arguably the best sprinter in the country and absolutely loves the straight at Flemington. The Godolphin stallion has two wins from three starts at Flemington including the last start domination of the VRC Sprint Classic where he smashed some of the rivals he meets here. Despite the proven class some of these sprinters have shown over the years, the main danger looks to be the three-year-old filly September Run (#7) who won three in a row at Flemington including the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes. It will be a race well worth watching and we expect the class of Bivouac to shine through.

Race 9- Flemington Racing Spectacular Sprint
In the ‘Get Out’ at Flemington on Saturday we are hoping the Godolphin gelding Zakat (#8) can send us home in style. During the spring he chased home the likes of Athiri, Prime Star and Criaderas and that looks the form to follow home in the last leg of the quaddie. Platini (#10) is coming off consecutive victories to begin this campaign including down the ‘Flemington Six’ on January 29. Platini is undefeated over the 1200m from three starts, and looks the main danger to our top selection and it would be good to see the pair go stride for stride over the concluding stages.
