Flemington racing tips & odds – Wednesday, 23 September 2020

Right You Are

There will be plenty of interested onlookers when racing resumes at Flemington on Wednesday afternoon with an eight-part card. The rail is out 4m for the entire circuit, which has come up a Good 4; however, with showers forecasted from Tuesday afternoon onwards, we may see a downgrade by the time the first race jumps at 1pm AEST.

The first 2YO race of the season opens the card over 900m. There is plenty to be learnt from the race, as first-season sires Capitalist, Mikki Isle and Frosted have their first gallopers engaged.

Also on the card is the opportunity for a filly to win her way into the Kennedy Oaks in Race 4, whilst the boys will be competing in Race 6 to get the golden ticket into the Victoria Derby.

Wednesday racing tips for Flemington

Best BetRace 8 – Cordilla Get the best odds

Looked to be a good thing when beaten last time out at The Valley, finishing 1.75 lengths off How Womantic after struggling to find a way out in the home straight. From barrier four it’s hard to see Damien Oliver riding for luck again this time around, with the much bigger straight at Flemington sure to be a blessing for this 4YO mare. She’s bomb proof at 1400m and was able to win second up in her debut campaign. She has the ability to do it on rain-affected ground, so that should not deter punters in backing Danny O’Brien’s galloper. Looks to have a bit of class on the rest of this field.

Next BestRace 5 – Ocular Get the best odds

We have just as much confidence in Ocular to get the job done in the opening leg of the quaddie. He absolutely bolted in three weeks ago at Bendigo and looks a progressive gelding for Shea Eden, who has publicly stated he has plenty planned for Ocular this spring. He is yet to win second up from two attempts but finished runner-up on both of those occasions and will look to rectify that with his first go down the Flemington straight.

Best ValueRace 7 – Gamay Get the best odds

Gamay drops back in class and gets out to a mile second up, where she has won in the past. She was hard on luck last time out at Caulfield and will be much the better for the run. Last preparation she won the Ethereal Stakes and was competitive in Oaks, and that form should stack up nicely here. In a wide-open affair, this looks like a nice 1×3 play for the Archie Alexander mare.
