Flemington is set to host a nine-part card on Saturday afternoon, with the Listed Straight Six taking top billing. The track is rated a Good 4, with the rail out 5m for the entire circuit. HorseBetting.com.au brings you the race-by-race preview, best bets, top odds and free quaddie numbers for the Melbourne meeting, which is set to get underway at 11:45am AEST.

Race 1 – The Blueant X5 Party Speaker Plate (1400m)

The day gets underway with 12 three-year-old fillies set to go around in the opener at Flemington. We were with Pride Of Jenni at Caulfield at her last start, but her run on that day is one we simply cannot forgive straight away. Sweet Sixteen, on the other hand, is a filly we want to follow on Saturday, even though she ran into trouble at Pakenham on May 12. The Snowden-trained filly was held up for a run at the 200m that day but was doing her best work when she found clear air. Jamie Kah jumps on for the first time, and that should be the move to get her back into the winners’ circle.

Selections: 6-2-4-3

Race 2 – TAB Supports National Jockeys Trust (1600m)

Our best bet on the Flemington program comes up early, with Holbein looking to bring up consecutive victories. He broke a long run of outs with his four-length victory at Caulfield on May 8, but prior to that win he had been racing in consistent form. Laura Lafferty sticks on board and will be looking to maintain her unbeaten streak on the Steve Richards-trained son of Pierro. With Lafferty’s 3kg claim bringing the weight down to 54.5kg, we expect Holbein to hunt for the rail from barrier eight and prove hard to catch over the Flemington mile.

Selections: 2-10-4-6

Best BetRace 2 – Holbein (#2) $2.30 with Bet365

Race 3 – Racing.com Plate (1400m)

With five debutants among the 14 two-year-olds in the field, this is an event to approach carefully. Fashion Avenue finished a length off the winner at Cranbourne on her April 23 debut, but with natural improvement and four weeks between runs, she should be coming to Flemington with a win in mind. Michael Dee hops on board the Dabernig & Hayes runner for the first time, and we expect to see the pair settle up on speed and be there or thereabouts when it counts.

Selections: 12-2-1-9

Race 4 – PFD Food Services Plate (2500m)

The longest race at Flemington on Saturday will see 10 genuine stayers duke it out over the 2500m, with Heart Of Puissance a short $2.40 favourite. Despite getting Jamie Kah on board for the first time, we are looking to steer clear of the favourite, instead settling on the Matt Cumani-trained Converging. The Strada mare was last seen finishing second in the Listed Port Adelaide Cup and meets the winner on that day 1kg better in the weights after giving Wyclif a 1kg advantage when they met at Morphettville. From barrier one, we expect Fred Kersley to have Converging close to the speed throughout, and if the six-year-old brings the form that saw her finish second in Listed grade, then she will give this an almighty shake.

Best ValueRace 4 – Converging (#6) $7 with Sportsbet

Race 5 – Donate NJT.Org.Au (1100m)

The first of the sprint races down the infamous Flemington straight sees Deep Dive pushing for three wins on the bounce. On the back of a five-week freshen up between runs, the Anthony Freedman-trained Deep Field gelding is yet to finish outside of the top two from four starts at 1100m. He gets Jamie Kah on board for the first time in his career, which is a notable booking considering Kah rode market rival Kalkarni Royale at its last start at Warrnambool. Deep Dive is expected to settle just off the speed, amble up on the outside and prove too good over the 1100m.

Selections: 5-4-16-10

Race 6 – Ecycle Solutions Trophy (1100m)

One of the better bets on the program comes up in the opening leg of the quaddie, when Patrick Payne saddles up All Of Brighton. We were keen on his chances at Pakenham on May 12, but he was ultimately scratched and saved for this. Having already won down the Flemington straight over 1000m on January 29, we expect the Needs Further gelding to be too good over the 1100m. He has won over the trip in the past, and he has run to within a nose of proven performer Minhaaj. We expect Michael Dee to have All Of Brighton in a handy position throughout and then savaging the line late.

Selections: 7-3-9-10

Next BestRace 6 – All Of Brighton (#7) $5.50 with Sportsbet

Race 7 – Off The Track Community Trophy (2000m)

Cindy Alderson saddles up Reuber, who three runs back was chasing home the likes of South Australian Derby winner Explosive Jack at Bendigo. He was last seen finishing second at Caulfield on May 8 in yet another run that was littered with bad luck at crucial times. He drops 1.5kg off that run, and from barrier seven he surely finds clear galloping air when he needs it. Craig Newitt sticks on board, and with upwards of $6 on offer, Froggy will be hoping it is third time lucky for his partnership with the Dissident gelding.

Selections: 5-4-7-2

Race 8 – Hilton Nicholas Straight Six (1200m)

The Listed Straight Six is the featured event on the Flemington card, and we are happy to be with last-start Warrnambool winner Ocular. Shea Eden has high praise for the son of Written Tycoon, and based on his two runs this campaign, he looks well placed to take out a black-type race at his first go. Daniel Moor hops back on board, and with just 54kg on his back, Ocular should be running a smart race. He has experience down the Flemington straight, so there should be no excuses.

Selections: 14-7-16-6

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1369902_08]

Race 9 – Victorian Jockeys Association Plate (1800m)

We are looking to blast out with the Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Spring Choice in the final event at Flemington. The Choisir gelding was impressive when winning at Sandown on May 1, and that form makes his the one to beat in this. The draw in barrier 18 is no real issue, as his natural racing pattern sees him settle at the rear of the field anyway. Lachlan King’s 2kg claim gets the weight down to 57kg, so Spring Choice should have enough in the tank to charge home and give us a win in the last.

Selections: 5-4-12-16
