Flemington Race-By-Race Form Guide

Flemington Racecourse will play host to the nine race card held on Saturday, May 15th. The rail is at +2 metres the entire circuit with the track currently rated a Soft 6 with chances of showers which could potentially see the track downgrade to a Soft 7 to a Heavy 8. The first race is set to jump at 11:45am with Horsebetting.com.au bringing you the entire race-by-race betting preview and our quaddie tips for the day.

Race 1 – Celebrating 20 years Of The ARHOF (1000 Metres)

The nine race card meeting kicks off with a battle of the two-year-old maidens as 10 horses look to line up for the $125,000 prize pool. With so many first time runners there is not much form to work off with these horses. The Mick Price and Michael Kent’s gelding River View is coming back from a 29 week spell and had a convincing trial win at Cranbourne on May 3rd. Experienced jockey Mark Zahra is set to be leading the race from barrier one with River Views and if he can repeat his recent trial form, he will be hard to run down up the Flemington straight.
Selections : 7 – 4 – 2 – 5

Race 2 – Goodwood Trophy (1600 Metres)

The field of 11 three-year-old fillies is set to run in the BenchMark 78 at 12:20pm local time. The current favourite at the time of writing, has had three starts and placed top three at each start. Surecan , trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace will be jumping with 55.5kg on her back and will be getting back on the soft track same as her last win. We will be expecting Surecan to jump and sit at the top of midfield and look to chase down the likely leader Star Of Eden.
Selections: 8 – 1 – 9 – 4

Race 3 – Breeders’ Handicap (1000 Metres)

The 1000 metre sprint will have nine horses lining up in the barriers with the clear favourite Sartorial Splendor looking to be the one leading them down the straight. Coming off two wins and a second this campaign, jockey Matthew Cartwright’s 3kg claim will have the John Sadler-trained horse carry just 1kg over the limit. The main danger will be coming from barrier one Ididitforlove who has placed five of the seven starts at this distance and will be looking to chase Sartorial Splendor down in the last furlong.
Selections 1 – 2 – 5 – 6

Race 4 – Australia Racing Hall Of Fame Trophy (2000 Metres)

Race four is set to jump with a line up of nine horses in the three-years and upwards race over the 2000 metre. With no obvious leader in this race, it should really leave the window open for one of the mid to off pace horses assume control of the race in the middle stages. Another Dollar is having her second 2000m start this campaign after finishing second to Yonkers at Caulfield on April 24th. Luke Nolen takes the ride for Peter Moody after the association enjoyed their 1000th winner together during the week.
Selections 2 – 1 – 5 – 8

Race 5 – Curragh Leilani (1200 Metres)

The BenchMark 84 Fillies and Mares race is set to run at 2:10pm local time. The favourite at the time of writing will be looking to make amends after going down to Altai Ranger by 0.3 lengths as our best bet of the day at Sandown Hillside on May 1st. With showers expected throughout the day and a soft track due, we are expecting Danny O’Brien’s mare to get the perfect run at Flemington on Saturday, and score her seventh win out from 13 starts. The only threat to Cordilla will be the Mare outside of her in barrier 8, Plaquette; who drops 2kg in weight and finished hard the last furlong to claim second at Caulfield on April 24.
Selections : 3 – 8 – 7 – 5

Best BetRace 5 – Cordilla (#3) $3.20 with Sportsbet

Race 6 – The Andrew Ramsden (2800 Metre)

The Andrew Ramsden is the feature race of the day at 2:50pm. With the rain looking to stay around all day this looks to be Miami Bound’s race to lose as she has currently three wins from six runs on rain affected tracks. The Danny O’Brien mare finished hard the final 600m at Randwick in the Group 1 Sydney Cup and has clearly been set for this race and the 2021 Melbourne Cup guaranteed start. Experienced jockey Ben Allen takes the ride for first time, however that should not be an issue for this mare who looks hard to beat in the feature race of the day.
Selections : 5 – 6 – 3 – 2

Race 7 – Royal Ascot Silver Bowl (1400 Metres)

The three-year-olds are set to run over 1400m with a field of 11 competing for the $135,000 prize money. With the rain likely being a major factor on the nine race card Altai Ranger, who beat our best bet of the day last start; could be sent out disadvantaged by the conditions. Altai Ranger has had four starts for not one single placing on rain affected tracks, so the smart play is to bet around the favourite. Winsum is one-for-one on rain affected tracks and has been in the money four of the six starts. The main threat comes from Rathlin who will race on pace.
Selections : 6 – 4 – 2 – 1

Best ValueRace 7 – Winsum (#6) $8.00 with Sportsbet

Race 8 – Congratulations ARHOF Inductees (1400 Metres)

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained Yulong January has a 50 percent strike rate at this track and distance, having had four starts for two wins. With no obvious leader in the race we will most likely see Mark Zahra take it upon himself to set the tempo from barrier nine with Yulong January. The only concern for him will be that he hasn’t run on a rain affected track since August 2020, but is one win from one start on Heavy tracks, and one placing from three goes on Soft.
Selections : 7 – 12 – 4 – 2
[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1369327_08]

Race 9 – York Trophy (1600 metres)

The York Trophy is the final race of the day to run at 4:45pm for a total of $75,000 in prize money. With 16 in-form horses set to run the 1600m and 4 emergencies at hand this race will be a genuine dart board. Our money will be going toward the Damien Thornton ridden Dirty Deeds who has been consistent finishing in the placings the last four starts. Dirty Deeds wears blinkers for the first time and has performed well on rain affected tracks previously. As long as the rail isn’t “off” by race nine, he should be able to get a good run from barrier one. The main danger looks to come from San Fabrizio who will get a start with the scratching of Dazzling Damsel. San Fabrizio will drop 6kg on his last run and Will Price will take the ride.
Selections : 14 – 17 – 9 – 10
