Run over 2800m with $400,000 on the line, the Andrew Ramsden Stakes will give the winner a golden ticket into the 2021 Melbourne Cup. Grand Promenade should be the natural leader in the 10-horse field, with Salto Angel and Persan both expected to be there or thereabouts upon settling. Mohican Heights and Miami Bound are tipped to be the backmarkers. HorseBetting.com.au brings you our Andrew Ramsden Stakes tips and betting strategy for the 2021 running.

2021 Andrew Ramsden Stakes preview

With plenty of rain expected at Flemington in the lead up to the Andrew Ramsden Stakes, Miami Bound will get the track just the way she likes it. The Reliable Man mare for Danny O’Brien has three wins from six runs on rain affected going, and just two wins from 15 starts on firmer ground. She put in the best last 600m in her last start third in the Group 1 Sydney Cup and looks set to book a spot in the Melbourne Cup. Her last four starts have been at Group 1 level and she should appreciate going around in Listed company for the first time since last year’s Sandown Cup. Ben Allen hops on board for the first time, and with a genuinely run tempo the pair should be too hard to hold out.

If Persan can overcome his poor performance at his last start, he is legitimately the best horse in the race. He will somehow find his way into the 2021 Melbourne Cup, based on performances alone, but connections will be looking to claim the golden ticket on Saturday. He was defeated by Amade at his last start by 3.5 lengths as a $1.60 hot-pot and will need to be back at his best to get the job done. Michael Dee replaces Matthew Cartwright on board, and from barrier four will look to have Persan in a positive position throughout the event. If he brings his best, Persan could simply blow this field away.

Mohican Heights convincingly beat home Persan at their last start on April 25, and as a $10 chance he is certainly not the worst chance going around in the Andrew Ramsden. Throw in the likes of proven performer Realm Of Flowers and Through Irish Eyes and this looks set to be a cracking race.
