Flemington is the destination for metropolitan racing in Victoria on Saturday, with nine races set down for decision. While there are no black-type events, the $150,000 Dean Lester Flemington Cup (2800m) has attracted a decent field of stayers for the feature race of the day. Clear skies are forecast for race day, meaning the track should become a Good 4 at some point, with the rail out 3m for the entire circuit.
Deane Lester Flemington Cup Tip: Muktamil
Muktamil has been racing in fine form this time in and gets the chance to add a third win this prep in Saturday’s feature. The son of Sea The Stars finished a half-length off Bold Soul last time out over 2540m, and the way he stormed home suggests the step up to 2800m should be no issue. With Craig Williams on board and just 53.5kg on his back, he gets everything in his favour on Saturday.

Race 7 –
#14 Muktamil (9)
5yo Gelding | T: Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young | J: Craig Williams (53.5kg)
Best Bet at Flemington: La Fracas
La Fracas backed up his dominant victory at Mornington with a similarly impressive win at Sandown last time out. The Night of Thunder gelding is blessed with an electric turn of foot and clearly relishes the 1200m, having won each of his four starts at the trip. Blake Shinn will need to be at his best from a tricky draw, but La Fracas looks the one to beat in the quaddie opener.
Best Bet
Race 6 –
#8 La Fracas (1)
4yo Gelding | T: Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr) | J: Blake Shinn (56.5kg)
Next Best at Flemington: Legacy Bay
Legacy Bay was thoroughly impressive when winning at Sandown over 1400m on July 9, and a repeat of that effort should be enough to win the opener. The three-year-old filly meets a similar lineup, and in the small field of eight, she should not be too far from the speed despite being at the rear of the field. With a genuinely run 1400m expected, the race sets up perfectly for Legacy Bay to build through the gears and savage the line late.

#4 Legacy Bay (8)
3yo Filly | T: Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman | J: Luke Cartwright (a3) (54kg)
