Flemington Racecourse will hold its annual Rapid Racing Raceday this Friday evening, with all seven of the races being run down the famous straight with short 30-minute gaps between each race. The current track rating of a Good 4 is expected to stick for Friday. The rail will go out to the +12m position for the entire circuit, albeit every race goes down the straight, so there will be limited room for runners in the big fields. The first race will jump at 3pm AEDT.
Best Bet at Flemington: Pacific Ruby
Our best bet of the day at Flemington will be the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Pacific Ruby, who will be returning from a six-month spell with the benefit of two jump-outs at Cranbourne over 800m. This four-year-old mare finished her three-year-old campaign with two wins in succession at Moe and Sandown as the favourite before going out for a break. This daughter of Kermadec has only won on Heavy tracks throughout her career, but the way she recorded those wins is the reason we have her as our best on Friday. She won both of her races by 2.75 lengths, where she was eased down in the final 50m after putting the rest of the field away quickly in the home straight, even though Jye McNeil and Jamie Kah hardly touched the mare and rode her out hands-and-heels. From barrier 12 on Friday, we should see Jamie Kah find cover and come the widest and run up the outside fence to finish with that blistering turn of foot. Friday will be this mare’s first-up run over 1200m and first start down the Flemington straight, but we don’t think it will worry her and she should prove too good for this field.

Next Best at Flemington: Keitel
Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr will bring their three-year-old gelding, Keitel, to Flemington on Friday first-up after going out for five-month spell back in August of last year, after he won his debut start on the Pakenham Synthetic over 1200m. This son of Hellbent was heavily backed on debut, jumping as the $2.60 favourite with online bookmakers, and he duly saluted for his followers running away with a very impressive and easy four-length victory over Cable Glow. Since coming back into work this gelding has been given two quiet trials, just travelling around the 800m circuit at Cranbourne under his own steam, which shows us that the Price & Kent team are happy with what he is doing on the training track before his return on Friday. Barrier six down the straight at Flemington is a bit of an awkward draw, but if he settles worse than midfield and finds cover, he should be letting down with that burst of acceleration we saw when he was on debut last campaign.

Best Value at Flemington: Bazinga Bazinga
Clayton Douglas and Blake Shinn will combine with Bazinga Bazinga in the second race of the day over 1000m and with the current odds of $17 with online betting sites we are more than happy to have him on top in a race that lacks depth. This son of Magnus was good when he finished third last start at Stony Creek over 1000m, where he peaked in the final 50m after lumping a massive 62kg in a Benchmark 58. This four-year-old gelding will enjoy the drop in weight to 59kg on Friday and should get a good run behind the speed from barrier three down the straight. If Shinn can settle behind the speed and get into clear air with 300m to go, we should see this gelding sprint away from his rivals and give the rest of the field something to catch in the concluding stages.
