As his third birthday approaches, the talented Finance Tycoon has been transferred to Danny O’Brien’s stable ahead of the 2021 Spring Carnival.

Formerly trained by the Lindsay Park operation at Euroa, the son of Written Tycoon has been moved on after the departure of senior trainers David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, alongside Fifty Stars.

The horse is a winner of three races – including the Vobis Showdown in April at Caulfield – and will head into the spring as one of the top three-year-olds after placing fourth in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes in his two-year-old season.

In The Showdown, Finance Tycoon sat wide under Luke Nolen in the run but coasted away to win comfortably in what was the third-quickest run by a two-year-old over the 1200m course at Caulfield since 2007, slower only than Blue Diamond winners Sepoy and Tagaloa.

“He obviously had a terrific two-year-old season with the Hayes team,” O’Brien told RSN.

“He’s come to us in fantastic condition, so we won’t be able to take too much credit for wherever he goes to this Spring because he came to us ready to go.”

Already a winner of over $800,000 in prizemoney, Finance Tycoon is not far away from returning to the track in a bid to tick over the $1 million mark in the coming months.

“He’s just been with us for a week now,” O’Brien said.

“He’ll trial at Flemington in a couple of weeks’ time, on Monday the 9th of August, and then we’ll weigh up where he goes to, but more than likely the McNeil (Stakes), and like a lot of those three-year-old colts, it’s always the question whether you keep them to the sprinting courses or whether you aim up for a potential Caulfield Guineas.

“All that we’ll find out in due course.”

The Group 3 McNeil Stakes will be run at Caulfield on August 28th over 1200m, where Finance Tycoon will look to go one better than his new stablemate Flying Award did in the race last year.

Finance Tycoon currently sits at $26 in the Golden Rose, Caulfield Guineas and The Everest markets on Sportsbet, while markets are yet to go up for the McNeil Stakes.
